Oskar the Giant Schnauzer.
Please ignore the pine needles from the recently removed tree

Good lookin’ dog, for sure, but may I please state for the record, that’s some GORGEOUS flooring!!

ETA both Oskar and Victor have faces that just beg for a nice scritchie betwixt the ears.

Victor has beautiful eyes, and Oskar … I’m sure has eyes under there somewhere.

Oskar gets groomed every 6 weeks, and his next appointment is next week. His eyes will be revealed at that time.

Regarding the floor, yeah, I’m a fan. I put that in. Nowadays you can actually purchase the inlays and they go in like any other piece of hardwood flooring. So it’s really not as artisan as it looks (company is called Oshkosh Designs)

My gf is currently this dog’s godmother. Her name is ScruffyWinnie. She lives (along with 18 others) with Ursula Oppikopfer who is sorta the Mother Teresa of the stray dogs on Saint Martin.

Hurricane Irma destroyed the shelter on the French side and the French government hasn’t bothered to rebuild (it’s been 6 years, dammit). So Ursula now has 18 adult dogs in her home.

Over her life Ursula has placed many hundreds of dogs on the island, the US, and Europe. We brought one dog home with us (Simi) two years ago and have helped transport others.

As a godmother, my gf pays a monthly stipend ($12) for food, as well as paying any veterinary bills. She’s a sweet dog, but too big to fly in the cabin, like Simi did. We visit her every year and bring her toys and treats.

If you’d like to help Ursula, I can give you her contact information. She is 70 and will not be able to do this forever. Sorry if this last paragraph violates rules. Feel free to delete.

Someone messaged me asking what will happen to ScruffyWinnie should Ursula pass away. I did not know, so i asked my gf.

My gf takes her responsibility seriously. In her will Ursula has instructions for my gf to be contacted. Ursula left enough money to fly ScruffyWinnie to the US (SXM to Philadelphia) and we will pick the dog up there or arrange her to fly to Pittsburgh.

It was 61 degrees today in western Pennsylvania. EeeeeHaaaww. Simi was so happy, going on a long walk on the trail in town.

ETA: wish his new harness showed in the picture. It has skulls on it. He looks like a badass.

Poor little guy got into something that gave him a crazy allergy attack–almost anaphlaxis. Doggy ER, benadryl, prednisone and he’s feeling a lot better. No idea what set it off, which sucks. None of us slept last night.

Was it unseasonably warm (it was here). I’ve seen bees/wasps/yellow jackets become active in February when it suddenly got warm.

Yes, but still around freezing. I have no idea. It was centered on his head, but his whole body got welts. I had anaphlaxis in 1991 and it took 20 years to find the cause (stone fruit allergy+aerobic exercise).

Whoa!

Yup–I can eat raw stone fruits and just get an itchy throat (warning, kids) but go for a run? My eyes, nose and throat were swelled shut. BP was 80/60.

Took the boys for a hike this morning, and Lucas got spooked by another dog and took off (he’s spooky). Tracked him down with his Fi collar across the very busy road. So thanks to whomever brought up the Fi collar on the Dope. Might have in fact been @kayaker .

Yeah, we are pretty happy with our Fi Collars. Our dogs are outside much of the day and often venture into the woods. It’s nice to be able to see exactly where they are.

We have a new member of the family! A seven week old kitten named “Pixel”. I am going to teach her how to steal food and be the cutest pest in the state.

Yay! Color?

I’m excited to see her… wait! What state are we talking about?

Oregon.

Grey and black tortoise-shell.

Here she is:
