Pet pictures!

Seven to seventeen pounds?

My random cats-who-have-shown-up-in-this-area have generally weighed from ten to fifteen pounds. I think there may have been one in there who weighed as little as seven.

Maybe it’s the combination of outdoor exercise, indoor beds, and quality cat food.

Look at that tabby face! She’s got this well in hand.

Oh, they both know who’s in charge!

The two of them have bonded so well that we are worried about George when much older Missy crosses the Bridge. He was raised with his mama, siblings, cousins and aunts, then came home with us to a 10 year old cat who had always wanted a kitten. He’s not going to know what to do when he’s an only cat.

They sleep together, they groom together and play together, she chases him around the house a couple of times a day. He doesn’t get to chase her, they play when she feels like it!

He might be bigger than her, but she is the large and in charge one.

You may have to get him a companion.

The most in-charge-of-the-household cats I have known were the smallest creatures in the house.

Here’s a fairly recent picture of Buddy.

And here, from close to far, are Buddy, Allie, and @Seanette

I used to know an orangie named Buddy.

Buddy sure is a handsome puss. Allie and Seanette are radiant as usual

This is my new foster dog, Ariadne. She ended up in animal control after her owner was incarcerated. I dislike the term “kill shelter” because it unfairly demonizes open-intake shelters, which are necessary to have, but… I digress. The fact is, if she had not been chosen, she would have had to be euthanized for space once her time was up.
She’s 12 years old and very obese. At 102 lb, she weighs almost twice what she should. People feel for the neglect cases when they’re skinny dogs, but… this is also neglect.

Anyway, she’s fantastic. As I mentioned in another thread, she and my chihuahua (who is a tough customer) actually play together. She’s gentle, sassy, and considerably more energetic than I expected, given her size and age. The plan as of now is to get her down to a weight where it would be safe to put her under anesthesia for a dental and then, once she’s had that done, she can go to a permanent home!

And, of course, here’s Marvin

Good on you for being a beautiful human to those two beautiful dogs.

Pardon my ignorance on a matter of terminology, but when you say Ariadne is your “foster dog”, do you mean that this is just temporary, until she finds a permanent home, or is she with you in her forever home?

Either way, you’re doing God’s work.

What sweet looking puppers! I really admire your commitment to rescue and your willingness to take in the hard cases.

Poor baby. I hope you get her healthier soon.

During the pandemic, my daughter adopted a morbidly obese little dog whose owner had died. The pounds melted off as they integrated Benji into their activities.

Now he is slim and enjoys hiking.

Marvin hopes this becomes a foster fail.

That’s the plan! She’ll stay with me for as long as she needs to and then, once we’ve got a better handle on her health and got her on the right track, she’ll be available to adopt.

I’m not going to completely rule out the idea of a “foster fail,” if only for Marvin’s sake… but it isn’t currently the plan. Once she’s slimmed down a bit, she’ll be what I would consider to be a very adoptable dog, in terms of temperament and behavior. Ideally, she’d pretty quickly find a home and make someone very happy and I would then be in a position to help the next dog in immediate need of rehab, TLC, or a safe place to go. But, of course… Marvin may well be the deciding factor and I sure wouldn’t mind having this sweet girl long-term.

So, this is the cat that ended up claiming us in 2022, and whom we now call Buddy, right?

Yes, dear.

How many other orange cats with clipped ears have we known since we moved in here?

Remember to have your phone ready to record if Buddy gets moist again.:cat2::bathtub:

Might be a while. He has not voluntarily entered that bathroom since his surprise swim. (snicker)

Meanwhile, it’s mud season! My late Commander made good use of it.

He looks like he was a fun having horse!

He definitely enjoyed his life.
