Apparently PETA posted this billboard of Mayor Gulliani (without permission to use his picture or his support). The billboard company pulled the ads, now PETA is sueing them to get the boards put back up. Gulliani is thinking of suing PETA for not having his permission, and has stressed that he does NOT support PETA.
What’s up with these wackos?? I’m all for animal rights, but come on. Using someones likeness in an ad this tasteless is just unbelievable. I hope there’s a special place in hell for these people, complete with rats chewing their eyeballs out and nibbling their toes.
Zette
(Not a very powerful rant, but hey- I’m new to Pit threads, OK?)
Well, fer Petes sake! I’m not gonna let that ruin my rant! That thread was in Great Debates (where I rarely post or read)- this is just a general bitch I guess.
Screw you, PETA!
Oh, well. That was a shortlived fury. Please return to your regular flaming Pit threads. Nothing to see here.
\slight hijack
for those of you who happen to get “the John-boy and Billy show” on your classic rock station: These meatheads are having a BBQ on tomorrows show (Wed.8/30) that just happens to coincide with reps from PETA wanting time for a rebutle. This should be real interesting!
Enjoy!
If you guys want to get pissed at something, get pissed at the way tomatoes and radishes are abused in this country!
People For The Ethical Treatment Of Salads.
I want to state from the outset that I (having been dubbed by elelle as “Vegetarian Man”) think that this was a stupid, stupid move by PETA, the latest in an ongoing series of PR blunders . . .
. . . and I don’t wish cancer, especially prostate cancer, on anyone . . .
. . . but . . .
. . . are we talking about the same fucking Rudolph Giuliani who, when his useless-as-tits-on-a-bull police force shot and killed an innocent man who refused to buy drugs from a plainclothes police officer, responded by releasing the victim’s juvenile police record to the media?
The same Rudolph Guiliani who has dragged the Clintons over the coals for two years now over their marital woes, only to turn around and dump his wife for his mistress?
I hope he’s able to get his cancer treated successfully, but fuck his hurt feelings. When it comes to conducting himself in the public eye, this guy has never failed to behave like a true putz.
Yeah I’m no Guliani fan either, but these PETA nutballs only get worse and worse. Drink beer not milk? Change the Green Bay Packers name? What a bunch of wackos. Eat your meat, kids.
See, I don’t think this helps, since these statements are insulting to vegetarians in general rather than PETA in particular, and insulting in a way which accomplished absolutely nothing.
Agreed. Remember, people, rather than trying to taunt PETA by claiming you’re going off to eat meat, instead talk about how you’re going off to torture small bunny rabbits with cosmetics.
No, wait.
Sorry, Phil. Tried to help.
(But Phil’s right, folks; PETA being full of wack-jobs doesn’t mean that every vegetarian is a wack-job, anymore than Jesse Helms being a Republican means all we Republicans are gay-bashing bigot perverts.)
I’m technically supposed to be upset by this. Not only because of the appropriation of someone’s image but because of the bad science (PETA based the claim on one study that was hardly more than a survey).
But I really can’t get my dander up over anything that upsets Der Mayor. Really, I can’t. I mean, I hope he doesn’t die and all, but until he stops with the personal (and occasionally illegal) attacks on every person who has the audacity to disagree with him, he can pretty much go fuck himself as regards how others portray him.
Oh, Gulliani is a jerk? Ohhhhhhh…
Then that makes it OK. Never mind then. I didn’t know that being a jackass made you fair game to have your deadly disease made light of and have your image associated with a bunch of nutcases cause. My mistake!
Hmmm. Near as I can tell, Zette, you’re putting words in people’s mouths. Phil very specifically said that he thought PETA was way in the wrong and that his dislike of Gules was completely unrelated to his cancer. Ditto for Manny. And Kels, who brought up the cancer in the first place, seemed to me to be sympathetic to his illness. 'Course I could be mistaken.
What’s really important here is this:
[Butthead]
Don’t make me kick your ass, buttmunch. Beer is cool. Milk sucks.
[/Butthead]
Gee, you say it as if the two (ethical treatment of people and animals) are mutually exclusive concepts. They are, of course, not.
andros: Thanks!
Zette: You and kelli can feel free to ignore what I and others actually said and have a conversation with yourselves and each other based on what you hoped I would say. Should make for a fun thread.
