PETA sponsored animal license law pases

Four of us, twenty of them at the city board of directors meeting. They had kitty pics and a couple of barbie types the Mayor smiled at. A couple of guys with pony tails, too, that I think the Mayor wanted to smile at but didn’t.
Hell, they were all counting votes. It was over at the start when the Mayor said “We havve a few people opposed”.
The eyes shifted about as they counted voters.
Sigh.

So what was the licence for???

A graduated fee for dogs that aren’t sterilized.
That’s not so bad, but it included expensive fees to get a dog back from animal control even if it was fixed. I wish they had considered a provision for poor kid’s pets. They could kill a dog that gets caught three times if the family doesn’t have $100.00

Yea sounds like a bunch of rich old ladies that couldn’t survive in the real world if they had to.
Maybe you should get together and propose a tax on rich old ladies that stick their noses into something they don’t understand.

carnivorousplant says that that licensing ordnance

“Getting a dog back from animal control” sounds very much like a euphemism for “springing it from the pound after the dogcatchers found it running free with all of the other uncontrolled and/or feral dogs”. As much as I am contemptuous of the lords (and ladies) of PETA, this sounds very much like an ordnance that should have been enacted some time ago.

PETA are a bunch of freakin animal fundies.

I’m getting a dog soon and I’m having it fixed, but the city has no right to get into that area of law.

I agree, and if you’ve let your pet get captured by animal control THREE TIMES than you are too irresponsible to have one any way. I doubt most domestic animals would survive to be captured a third time.

Carnivoriousplant, could we please have the text of the bill/law so we can see for ourselves why you have such a distate for it? Or are we supposed to take your word for it just because since PETA is involved it must be bad. What’s so awful about having a licenced animal?

You’d only be licensing dogs. I don’t think that a cat is considered to be owned by anyone. Or is that different in different states?
Have you considered the possibilits of the overzelous(sp) dog catcher???Remember carniverousplant was concerned about the kids dog. How many times have you said" Please shut the door" or “Who left the door open”

Yes, I’m soncerned about poor kid’s dogs.
They will kill kid’s dogs because Dad can’t afford a fence.

Here it is:

There is a larger more intrusive proposal that I’ll see if I can find on line.

I’m not generally a fan of PETA but I do agree with the fees charged by Animal Services. We have that here in Tampa. Many people have a negative view of Animal Services, but my hospital works very closely with these people, and my heart goes out to them for performing a thankless, often dangerous, and never ending job.
