Awwwww.

Thank you, Peter. RIP.

+1

I believe he was also the only actor to be in Last of the Summer Wine from beginning to conclusion, over thirty five years. It was a gentle comedy about three old men kicking about a village having adventures basically as if they were still boys. The cast changed many times throughout the run, but Sallis soldiered through it all.

It’s the wrong trousers, Grommit, and they’ve gone wrong!

RIP

The bounce has gone out of his bungee. I remember the first time I saw Wallace and Gromit, in a shitty punk club with a wall of old TVs for showing bootleg Black Flag and Sucking Chest Wound videos. When somebody put on a tape of Grand Day Out, the whole club stopped and everyone clustered around the screens in delight, because it turned out that a little plasticene guy going to the moon with his dog to look for cheese was as punk as fuck. Rest in peace, Peter.

I’m a huge W&G fan, and I’m saddened to hear about Peter’s passing.
Since I know this thread will attract a lot of fans: anyone who hasn’t seen A Grand Night In should watch it on Netflix.

… And don’t forget the crackers!

RIP, Peter. :frowning:

(I ***do ***like a bit of Gorgonzola!)

Clegg! I should have recognized the voice.

You’ll be hunted down like… well, a dog.

I love this story. Goes to show there was something utterly charming about Wallis and Gromit that appealed to all but the flintiest of hearts, and Sallis’s voice was a large part of that. RIP, Peter.

Ex-NASA. Perfect for walkies!

Hopefully, he’s gone where there’s cheese. RIP Peter. You brought more than your share of joy to us.

Regards,
Shodan

I must admit, perhaps to my shame, that I’m not very familiar with Wallace & Gromit. I knew Peter Sallis almost exclusively from Last of the Summer Wine, which used to be shown in heavy rotation on my local PBS station in the evenings. I would usually watch an episode right before going to bed. It wasn’t the most cutting edge of sitcoms, and was rarely laugh-out-loud funny, but it was usually good for at least a smile or two. It was a nice, gentle trip to a beautiful little Yorkshire village and its cast of bizarre characters. A good way to relax at the end of the day.

Sallis was the only actor to appear in every episode, over all thirty-seven years. Other cast members came and went (several passed away during the show’s run), but Cleggy was always there. Even if, in the last couple of seasons, he couldn’t do much beyond say a few lines in one token scene, nevertheless Cleggy was always there. PBS stopped playing the show several years ago, but I still miss it, and I will miss Peter Sallis.

Damn, I loved W & G. RIP Peter, and keep a close eye on the penguins…

RIP, Peter Sallis.

I had never heard of Last Of The Summer Wine, so I looked up a clip on youtube. Here it is - just a few minutes long. I watched it just to hear his voice again. He even talks about cheese!

That looks like it was a funny show.

Wensleydale, no less!

That’s cracking good toast, Grommit!

Well, damn. At least 96 is a lotta years.
