I just watched the Pink Panther last night, I hadn’t seen it in years. I laughed so hard I cried.
My question is simple: Which is the funniest Peter Sellers movie?
My next rental may depend on your reply

He did a number of wildly funny movies. The best, as a movie overall, is Dr. Strangelove, but it is not really all that upbeat. My favorite Panther is Stikes Again.
Return of the Pink Panther
or
Dr. Strangelove-- which is his funniest
but
Being There is his 'best" role.
IMHO, of course.
Dr. Strangelove
Being There
Being There
The Party
Well, since Dr. Strangelove is the best movie ever made, that automatically makes it the best Peter Sellers movie…
Eric
Santos is correct.
Ditto on Strangelove, though I also like him in I’m All Right, Jack and The World of Henry Orient, though you could argue that these are more supporting performances.

[sub]Preview is my friend[/sub]
Ditto on:
Dr. Strangelove &
Being There.
im awfully fond of ‘whats new pussycat’. as a bonus, its woody allens first movie appearance.
IMO, the Holy Grail of Peter Sellers movies is A Carol for Another Christmas. It aired one time only circa 1964, and never again. It was a retelling of A Christmas Carol as only Rod Serling could do it.
But it’s anything but funny, so I’ve read. . . .
Same choices, different order.
Dr. Strangelove, sure, but. . .
No votes for The Mouse That Roared?
The Mouse That Roared
and
Being There
I would add the caveat that these are very different from the Pink Panther movies. Much better, IMHO.
Return of The Pink Panther is probably the funniest of the Pink Panther films.
As for non-Pink Panther roles, Sellers’ best three movies are Being There, The Mouse That Roared, and Dr. Strangelove, not necessarily in that order.
Zap!
Strangelove, without a doubt.
I’m not a big fan of Being There. I found that I couldn’t quite suspend disbelief to the necessary extent. I mean, especially in the scene where Shirley MacLaine’s character is trying to seduce Chance: any woman with a shred of self-assertion would have grabbed the remote, killed the TV, and thrown the remote out the window. And then returned to what she was doing.
And the ending was a little too…convenient.
I have to second “The Party”. This is one seriously odd, funny movie. You have to watch it just so you and your SO can go around for the next week saying “Birdie num-nums” to each other and bursting out laughing.
ditto for me. Being there is not really funny, but the thread title is “best”, so that is my answer, with strangelove as “funniest”
Can it be that I’m the only one who’s seen After The Fox?
And on that obscure note, we move this thread to Cafe Society.
