Peyton Manning to Broncos, Tebow to be traded

Yah but really, I liked the Jets game.

Actually, I would not have minded all that much. Drew Brees is approaching Junkyard Dog level popularity in the area, and Saints fans might well kill any rabid Tebowites calling for Brees to be benched. Tebow gets to carry a clipboard on the sidelines and be mentored by an elite guy for a few seasons, possibly run a few Wild Rebel plays now and then, and maybe develop into a legitimate NFL QB down the road.

Nor his detractors. Maybe its just a function of what websites I read, but I see at least as many people shitting on the kid because of his religion as I do people praising him for it. There will be plenty more of that in NY.

In New York, there WON’T be millions of born-again Christians chanting for Tebow to start at quarterback… which may ultimately be GOOD for him.

In New York, he’ll run the plays the coaches tell him to run in the packages THEY decide on. He isn’t likely to start a single game at quarterback this season, and DEFINITELY not before he proves in practice that he can make NFL throws and run an NFL offense.

In Sun Belt cities, he’d have loads of local fans pressuring the coach to let him start at quarterback. He won’t have that in New York. If he wants the starting quarterback job with the Jets, he’ll have to earn it.

Exactly as it should be.

By the way, the New York Post’s headline this morning was “God Him.” Not their best work.

Is that supposed to be a play on “got him”? As in “Tebow was highly sought-after and we got him”? That headline just fails on so many levels.

Yes, the Jets “Got Him” after the trade almost fell apart. It’s pretty lame.

KSK has their latest of installment of Rex Ryan up, this one reacting to Tebow’s arrival in the locker room. kissingsuzykolber.uproxx. com/2012/03/ a-savior -comes -to-new-york. html (Possible NSFW link broken)

Backup QB Drew Stanton tells the Jets he wants out, so they’re trying to trade him.

I’d imagine so, since that’s what he’s done everywhere else he’s been. Whatever they say about his ability, nobody who’s been around the kid claims he’s uncoachable or stubborn.

If the Jets have a losing record in November and Sanchez is mediocre? I see you’re not familiar with the New York sports media.

I grew up in New York- guess again.

But Tim Tebow will NOT have ardent champions in the New York media, nor will he have legions of Christian fans pushing the coach to play him.

Nah, there’s religious nuts around here too. A much smaller percentage, but of a much larger population base.

Tebow’s fans are national. The guys who paid for the billboard in Denver were from Kentucky. About half of the comments on Tebow stories in the Denver Post come from Florida, As I said previously, listen for the Southern accents on the callers to talk radio suddenly appearing.

You really have to stop with this nonsense. It’s not legions of Christian fans. I am a fan, and I know a bunch of folks who wanna see him play…none of them Christian.

We like him. We think he’s fun to watch. And the guy they had in BEFORE him was a turd.

Your experience notwithstanding, a very large portion of his fan base is evangelical Christian.

Here’s a new twist: Concerns about Tebow’s ability to stay healthy sparked Broncos’ pursuit of Manning and subsequent trade

I for one was unaware that Tebow had these injuries.
And as a lifelong Broncos fan, yes, most of Tebow’s fans are evangelicals. I got royally screwed by those people for refusing to join them during my younger years and basically need to get over it, but I like Tebow anyway. I appreciate that there is at least one of those people who didn’t cause me a problem. But I will appreciate Manning’s comp% even more if it meets expectations.

What are the odds that Manning makes it through the season unhurt and doing a good job?

A large portion of everyone’s fanbase are evangelicals, since they are something like 25% of the population. Do you have any actual evidence that Tebow’s is much higher than that, or are you just repeating what you hear?

I lived in Florida when he was in college, and I did not see this alleged phenomenon at all.

Every Gator I know is evangelical.*

*About being Gators, no idea where they stand on Christianity.

Has Pat Robertson ever lept to the defense of a football player faster before than he has for Tebow (now on multiple ocassions)? He just recently said that he wouldn’t be surprised if Manning was reinjured because of how shabbily the Broncos treated Tebow.

And Pat Robertson’s liking Tebow extrapolates to all Tebow fans? If one fan or one group of fans has a characteristic, ALL fans share that characteristic?

I can see why some Christian folks would like him and root for him while not being football fans, him being one of their own and all. But is it THAT hard for some to believe that non-Christians may be fans, and in numbers?

Seriously? You have never seen an atypical player that just sparked something in you, and you wanted him to succeed against the odds? 'Cause I find that idea kinda sad.
