Philly Cheesesteaks. What and where?

It’s not like you weren’t warned up above

Was it fun and worth the stop?

Nobody could gave predicted Reading Terminal Market would be crowded at 1pm on a lovely Sunday in April. Nobody!

Kidding aside, @Spiderman and other locals did accurately explain what to expect so thanks for that. It’s good to get more voices in.

I’m curious about this, too. And what did you do about vehicles?

It was sort of controlled chaos, like most of the weekend. In hindsight, I’m not sure I would make the same choice again, as some of the scouts weren’t that into the experience. That or do more homework for them to get them excited about going to this place or that place for a meal.

The alternative would have been to find food somewhere else. We’re a diverse group, so I have a feeling going to a cheesesteak only place wouldn’t be better, ultimately it would be trying to find something for everyone on the street, again a bit challenging.

The day before we went to the Capitol Cafe and there was enough disappointment with the food choices to make me think that no place would satisfy everyone.

Vehicles, we just parked at a lot between Independence Hall and Reading.

I feel you. I was an assistant leader for a few years when my son was in Scouts. Was definitely herding cats, and since they couldn’t agree on anything, the leaders decided the cuisine whenever possible.

Interesting. I wonder if it’s the same Philly’s Best that has locations throughout southern California. Real Amoroso rolls, and even a supply of Tastykakes and Frank’s soda on hand. They make a fantastic cheesesteak.

The logos and branding looks different. Here’s ours.

This looks like a pretty definitive list but not ranked.

Last two weeks I’ve had to spend a lot of time in PA. For lunch one day I went to Steve’s Prince of Steaks. I don’t know if it counts because it wasn’t the original Philly location (they have 4 locations). I had my usual, provolone and fried onions. It was pretty damn good. Bonus points for really good fries.

I keep hearing Angelo’s as the go-to place. What’s the SD on them?

I had my cheesesteak at Angelos. Took 35 minutes and a long line. Provolone and onion - no peppers. The bread was phenomenal and the meat great quality but overall, just OK. A bit boring to be honest.

You tried a cheesesteak in Utah of all places?

Here in Olympia, WA, 3,000 miles away from Philly, I’ve seen a steak hoagie with cream cheese referred to as an “Oly cheesesteak”.

Actually, UT means the University of Toronto.

Especially with Victoria College, which is one of the federated colleges of the University of Toronto.

Also Utah. Which is why it’s nice when people write out what they are trying to impart. It helps loopy Americans and others. It can’t hurt that much.

Next thing you know, somebody will be telling me that UA means “University of Alabama,” when it actually means “University of Alberta.” Says this proud alumnus of U of A[lberta].

Agree that when it comes to universities, it’s best to spell them out. My American ex-wife got a lot of mileage out of claiming she went to “USC” and “UNC.” She didn’t say that she went to the University of Southern Colorado (in Pueblo) and the University of Northern Colorado (in Greeley).

I’d call it An Abomination. Does it taste good? Are there grilled onions?

abomination?!? I give you the Philly Cheesesteak Cheesecake

Wow. I’d try it (I’d try anything pretty much) but the idea of savory cheesecake is so weird.
