Philly Dopefest in December! Let's do it!

Well, Supergirlfriend has said it shouldn’t be a problem for us to get together that weekend, so count me in. I probably won’t get in town until sometime late afternoon-early evening Saturday, though. She and I are supposed to have dinner, at least. But I could meet up with everyone after that. If anyone between Louisville, KY and Philly needs a ride, let me know.

I know it’s going to be bad for lurker - he can’t get any time at all off between Turkey Day and the first of the year, really. But, last night at the Doper Dinner, Pucette and I talked about the possibility of taking the train in. But, being as close to Christmas, and still not sure what my plans or money situation will be, I can’t make any promises. If we do, can we get someone to meet us at the 30th Street Station? I don’t know about Pucette, but I’ve never been to Philly, and my sense of direction is horrid!

If you can come, I can pick you up at 30th Street. No problemo!

Same goes for anybody else coming in on Saturday. I’ll probably come down from Harrisburg on Friday night and stay with the folks through Christmas so I’d be more than happy to pick yizz up if you’re coming in on the bus, train or whatever.

Zap!

Zappo, you live in Harrisburg? Is that like 70 miles or so away? If so, that’s where Supergirlfriend lives. But I’ve never been to Philly, so I may need your navigation…

I can do this one. From Harrisburg, get on the Philly Turnpike, east. Observe lots of cows.

As you approach Philly, stay on I-76 (the Schuylkyl Expressway, pronounced SKOO-kull, until you get to the exit you desire.

I still haven’t discussed this with Anniz, but the weekend of the 22nd is the pre-X-Mas weekend, which we may have plans for.

Err, the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

[sub]Really, is there anything else of note in Pennsylvania besides Philly? Didn’t think so. :p[/sub]

I appreciate that, Montfort. Really. But I was referring to more detailed navigation, such as directions on where myself and the lovely Supergirlfriend would be dining. No info on that yet. But I should be there for the DopeFest!

count me and skittles in as definate maybe’s

Sure, Superdude. No problem at all. From Harrisburg The City of Brotherly Love (and Sisterly Affection)is about 2 hours down the Turnpike. I can give you directions no sweat.

Depending on when you’re coming in maybe we can get together for dinner or a beer or something in Harrisburg beforehand.

Zap!

Actually, it’s spelled Schuylkill. And real Fluffyans know that anyone not pronouncing it “Skookle” is from out of town.

You probably prefer DingDongs to Kandy Kakes, too.

Zap!

Who knows that a “tal” is the thing you use to dry off after a shower, “akkrost” is where you go to get from one side of Two Street to the other, and you get groceries at the “Ac-a-me” but they don’t sell jet-powered rollerskates.

Thanks, man. Philly’s about 11 hours or so from me, so I may end up leaving Friday night, and crashing in a hotel somewhere between the two places. But I’ll have to play that by ear.

I am currently talking to Civil Defense as to whether or not he wants to come with me.

And if anyone else wants a ride (assuming I have one, which I most probably will), lemme know.

You’re welcome. Drop me an email-my addy’s on my profile and we can work from there once the details get firmed up.

Zappo,

that was Beeyooteefull

It’s actually not a bad drive. I’ve made the same trip dozens of times.Right about now Skyline Drive in West Virginia must be beautiful. Consider taking that route if you have the luxory.

Oh…as for the OP count me in as well. I’ve been waiting to meet some dopers for a while now.

My father insists there’s an “L” in there, so it’s SCHOOL-kill, but we all know “skookle” is right, as mentioned.

You probably think roast beef is a fair substitute for a cheesesteak, too, don’t ya? Get outta here!

(Oh, and “fiddysent” is a legitimate form of currency in Fluffya as well.)

Well, duh. That’s just a basic truth, like wooder coming from a spicket.

Of course, you don’t drink the wooder from the spicket if it’s a funny keller.
Zap!

Gonna do the dopefest? How bout the Adam’s Mark Hotel?

Girard Ave.? (Ja-ROD)
2 St.? (not Second, TWO street!)
Street Road?

I Gotta get a drink a wattuh, and fry me up some scrapple.

Um, excuse me? “Wattuh?” "WATTUH?"

You, sir, are no Philadelphian. New Yorker, probably, maybe New Jersey, but “wattuh?” We, sir, refer to it properly as “wooder.” Any self-respecting southeastern Pennsylvanian knows that. It is, after all, the only truly unique Philadelphian inflection I’ve ever been able to find, and I think most will agree with me.

Poseur, indeed.
