I’ve bookmarked the thread in case the day frees up. I probably won’t make it but I hope you all have a lot of fun.
This is looking like something I can do. The details seem a bit vague, though. About what time would we be meeting? Also, with this many people possibly attending, it’s probably a good idea to figure out where we’d have lunch/early dinner and make reservations.
No you won’t :p. I’d be driving in from Rochester, NY.
They very well may have a playmate – it’s looking more and more like kittenlm and The Littlest Briston (same age as the twins) will be coming along.
Yeah, I know. I had been thinking Rotten Ralph’s, but I’m not sure if they take reservations, plus the crowd is getting big. Maybe the Continental?
Original plan was Old City for lunch (around 1?), with sightseeing around the historic district after for anyone interested. We may need to move the restaurant, because I’m having a hard time thinking of a place that would be big enough in Old City – but I’ll think of something. And we may need to change the time to a little later to find someplace that can take a crowd that big on Sunday, a traditional brunch day.
I’ll make some calls sometime in the next couple days and firm something up.

I called the Continental, which is a nice restaurant that can accommodate a group of 20 on a Sunday afternoon. They can take us at 2 PM, and with a group that size would serve family style – we pick the menu (of three offered) and they bring platters to the table for us to serve ourselves.
This would be a fixed price thing ($25 or $30 per person – kids half price), plus tax and tip, plus any drinks other than coffee or tea. Yes, Doc Cathode, even you, even if you’re not planning to eat. They count bodies, not mouths. So it’s a wee bit on the pricey side – but it’s a nice restaurant, good food, and they’re set up to take this crowd.
See the end of the post for the menus. The first is $25, mostly breakfast foods; the second is also $25, a mix of breakfast and lunch items; the third is $30 and has more substantial versions of both breakfast and lunch. I’m voting for #2.
So – question 1 is, are you still in at this restaurant at this price? and question 2 is, which menu do you prefer? I told the woman I’d call back within a day or two to confirm the reservation.
(And anyone who wants to find an alternative restaurant in Old City that will take 20 people early Sunday afternoon is more than welcome to do so.)

I have a major project due on the 20th, so I can’t commit to being there. Since they’re charging per head, I think I’m going to have to bow out.
I wouldn’t need to give her the final count till a couple of days before – this is just to reserve the space. I’ll leave you in as a maybe, eternal optimist that I am.
Doh! I’ll be in Philly on business the 22nd and 23rd. Just missed you guys!
I’ll be there. No preference on the menu - any of the three look fine to me.
Count in Sr. Olives and myself. I was just in Philly this morning for an on-campus meeting. I get chills everytime I go over Ben Franklin Bridge… seriously doubt I could ever turn down a chance to go back.
I love it! I prefer #1, but I’m OK with #2.
The sprog and I will likely be taking the train into town. We’re probably going to go to the Franklin Institute before lunch, then we’ll meet you at the restaurant.
Menu #2 gets my vote.
Menu 2 sounds good to me.
Since we’re trying to choose between more than two options, we should use something other than plurality voting. Approval voting is the next simplest system, so that’s probably the best choice. For each menu, mark down whether you like it or not, and in the end the menu that the most people like is the winner.
I like menus 2 and 3.
You’re going to crunch the numbers on that, right, Mr. Math? eye-batting smiley
Sure.
Okay, then I’ll vote for #2 or #3 also.
Jesus. That place is sort of expensive (keep in mind that my Americorps stipend is about $200/week) and it’s not like the food sounds plentiful or exceptional or anything. Can’t we find someplace else? I don’t care if it’s in Old City or whatever, I don’t even know where Old City is, really. All I know is that I usually get off the PATCO at 8th and Market.
