I would say the easiest thing to do to learn how to do that link thing is find any post with one in it, then press “Quote” to see the inner workings, and just follow the example set forth within.
Let me clue you in on what has stopped me from looking like an idiot at least once. (I find many, many ways of looking like an idiot, but I attempt to avoid the easy ones.)
first, post stuff in the right forum. Basic “how do I do this?” “What is meant by XXX on the board?” questions can be posted in About This Message Board.
Second, even better is the search function for the ATMB forum. Many people have already answered the basic stuff and it can all be found by hitting the little search icon at the top right hand side fo your screen.
Louie’s thread on Vb codes explained is an excellent reference. I recommend it highly.
Also, if you ever see someone else using a coding trick that you would like to try, you can always use the quote button to observe how they did their coding.
Or, you can go to the top of the screen (when replying) or the bottom of the screen (when reading a thread) and click the “vB code is On” link. That tells you all kinds of nifty stuff.
