There was some pretty severe coral bleaching going on back then, even the anemones where anemic, and although it’s not very good for them many had expelled the symbiotic algae turning the tentacles white or white with blue to purplish tips. Very pretty for a sick animal.
Not really, Nemo is an Orange Clownfish, the one in the photo is a Pink Skunk Clownfish. They are far more common here in Thailand, or at least around the island of Koh Tao* Here’s a picture of some Orange Clownfish, but that was in the Sea of Celebes, off Borneo’s coast.
Incidentally, Finding Nemo was actually pretty bad for Clownfish, the demand for fish for aquariums skyrocketed after the movie, and since in general reef fish are not bred but “harvested” from reefs many ecosystems were plundered. I’ve read that in some areas of Vanuatu up to 50% of reef “aquarium” fish were swoop in a few years.
Specially bad because reef fish are quite hard to keep and I shouldn’t wonder if most of them end up belly up in a week or two.
-Daddy… Nemo is floating on it’s back. Can we get a new one?
jayjay, I had to look up both Busby Berkely and The Incredible Mr. Limpet but I think I get what you mean.
Actually island of Koh Tao is a redundant, Koh means island in Thai, but just saying Island Tao gets people confused.
