John Walker, Bucky, Bucky, Ultimate…the last, I have no idea how much the serials are supposed to be like the comics, but all 4 of the others are explicitly different characters.
They’re all still Captain America, though, right?
I have problems with both of those images. The first looks cool, but the caption ruins it. Captain America does not say “Fuck Yeah”. The second is…considerably less than cool, and has a wimpy little gun. If Cap is gonna pack heat, it should be at least a 1911 model .45, or some futuristic looking cool thing.
Steve Rogers in the 616 universe has used firearms throughout his history. He very definitely did during his WWII career, especially before he was given his shield. In modern times, he used a sub-machine gun in order to stop some terrorists from killing hostages while fighting ULTIMATUM and Flag-Smasher, somewhere around CA #312 or #318-320.
That’s not supposed to be what Captain America is saying. That’s what you’re supposed to say when you see Captain America.
Dude, that’s like saying Superman’s cape looks good in print but stupid on film. You might have a point, but it’s an iconic part of the character’s costume and he just looks…wrong without it.
That’s because it doesn’t have wings.
It’s assless, right? Needs to be assless.
Ah. Then I withdraw the objection.
That may be the most outrageous comment I’ve ever read on this board. Funny, but still…ya really didn’t need to go there. I did not chuckle out loud. I was coughing. Smoker’s cough. <hack><hack>
I’d say it needs something to avoid the “condom head look” Wolfman mentioned. Whether that’s wings as in 616, obvious seams as for the modern Ultimates, or a proper helmet like Ultimate Cap did in WWII, wouldn’t make much difference. I’d still prefer something that looks utilitarian, though.
I’d be all for the wings.
But oh sweet merciful lord lose the suspenders and that belt. I know Cap is WW2 old…I don’t want him to be Larry King.
Agreed. From the neck down the uniform is acceptable but I’d much rather see the comic book’s form fitting cowl here. Preferably, as indicated in the comics, made of chainmail. Wings or no wings, I don’t greatly care.
Really though, the concept of Captain America wearing armor just doesn’t sit well with me. Cap doesn’t win battle by being tough. He wins them by out-thinking and out-maneuvering the opposition. To borrow a line for Tommy Lee Jones, when your “heart and brain are wired together, running full tilt boogie for freedom and justice”, armor just slows you down.
That’s my 2 cents worth anyway.
Actually, looking at it again… Check out the picture where he’s looking to the side (his left, our right). That… sort of looks like a German helmet, doesn’t it?
And I’d just like to add, I’ve always been a supporter of Will Smith playing the role, but I’m glad he won’t have to wear that uniform…
Not really. As shown by this picture, the German helmet has a lot more space between the wearer’s scalp and the outer surface of the helmet. That’s my main problem with the helm in the pictures: they could have made it look like soft body armour or hard body armour, but instead went for something in-between.
*When we have mastered these tactics, we will use them to seek out and confront the forces of evil and kill 'em deader than hell! *
I had nothing to add to the actual conversation, I just wanted to throw out another Tommy Lee Jones quote.
Yeah, because it’s really plausible that the US government in the 1940s would have chosen a black man to be the symbol of America to rally the troops…
Well, to be honest, I could see them using a black man to test the super serum on. Maybe he could be the mid-war emergency replacement after Captain #1 goes MIA/Presumed KIA?
/FanwankGuessing
There actually is a black Captain America,, of sorts. And you’re not far off from the story. The government tried to recreate the formula and tested it on a bunch of black soldiers.
