Pics of Captain America's costume have been leaked

I grew up with the comics I’m okay with the wings gone. It looks like they were trying to merge modern Cap with vintage Cap. I don’t think the little wings would translate well on the big screen without looking too much like a propellor beanie or something.

Okay, I haven’t read a Captain America comic since Steve Rogers had a black suit, but where the hell does that “vintage Cap” come from?

From the art style, I’d say “vintage Cap” is a retro-creation of the 90s.

Blue jeans, work boots, suspenders, utility belt, leather gardening gauntlets…

Looks very American, yes, but not very superhero.

Without the shield and helmet, the costume would be a gay porn parody of a bluecollar-superhero character: “HandyMan”, or something like that. “He has the tool for the job!”

Yes, BrainGlutton is right that asslessness is suggested.

According to theWikihe ditched the sidearm when FDR gave him the boomerang shield. Of course it is wiki and I never read the comics.

It is accurate as far as it goes. As I wrote before, he did use firearms during the war, and modern stories with flashbacks show that happening. I do not know what the stories from that time period actually had in them. In modern times, i.e. since 1980, Steve Rogers has definitely used firearms, and killed his opponents, while acting as Captain America. It has always been his last choice, but he will make it if necessary.

Wow, I knew FDR was an all-around resourceful president … but he had access to vibranium? I thought it was found only in Wakanda.

Maybe that’s what he had his secret cyborg legs made of …

It WAS Wakandan vibranium (as opposed to Savage Land vibranium, which has different properties), procured for tank armor experimentation and given to Dr. Myron MacLain, who managed to produce an alloy with iron and create the shield. Dr. MacLain later created Adamantium while trying to produce artificial vibranium.

The costume looks better than I would have guessed but I have an uneasy feeling about this movie. Certain things look great in a comic and then translate just fine into the medium of movies and some things just don’t. I have a feeling Captain America is going to be one of those things that don’t.

Also, I agree, no wings. That would look goofy outside of a comic book.

I thought American Gladiators had been cancelled?

If The Village People had been made up of comic book characters, that version of Captain America would definitely have been the lead singer.

That’s the “Ultimates” version of WW2 Cap.
“Ultimates” was the Ultimate Universe(brand of new continuity books) version of the Avengers. Basically Marvel said “Let’s do an Avengers movie in comic book form”

It’s funny because some site had a “fan art” costume contest for Cap’s movie outfit… and I swear one of the entries looked identical to these but done in a different art style. I think one of the designers might have been having some fun.

Rumor has it that Cap starts out as a USO style entertainer and will have something that looks more like the traditional comic costume- with helmet wings.

As for the story, as long as Cap punches Hitler in the face, I’ll be happy.

Prior to this thread, I didn’t know there was a Captain America movie planned. I cannot imagine any possible way that it won’t suck.

Which he never managed to do. IOW, a complete fluke, that just happened to be hardened in the shape of a perfect slightly concave disk, with places on the back to attach straps so it could be used and a shield. And, the indestructibility of the metal apparently transferred to the paint, which has also never been damaged. Unless of course, the design just happened to be bonded directly to the metal during the creation process.

IOW, the most unbelievable part of the entire origin of Captain America is his freaking shield.

Unless I’ve missed someone, the vote is running 6-5 in favor of wings.

Damn. Now I’m hungry.

What if it is really hyper-violent and has lots of gratuitous bewbiage?

I agree. I would be very surprised (happily surprised, mind you) if this turns out to be a good movie.

And that’s coming from someone who is very forgiving of comic book movies. I liked both the first Hulk movie and the Daredevil movie.

I don’t get why you would start from a position of “This is going to suck”

I assume the “A” is for asshole?
