How do you insert pictures into a message on this site
You can’t.
You need to put your picture up on some other site, wherever you can, and then you can post a link to it here.
You don’t. Images are disabled on these forums. You need to host it on a site like imgur, Flickr, or a similar site and post the link here.
SDMB does not allow images to be displayed within a post, but you can link to anything on the web. The FAQ has some suggestions.
Actually, ASCII images are allowed.

Tapatalk will host pictures, so if you use the app you can simply upload the picture into your post. It will be visible in the post on the Tapatalk app but will appear as a link if viewing the board through a browser on tablet or PC.
It’s nice because you don’t have to deal with a hosting site. I will use Tapatalk for that function alone, even if I’m viewing the boards with a browser. That is- I will open the Tapatalk app, upload a picture as an edit to a post or to a new post, and then go back to the browser.
I don’t recall seeing any links to Tapatalk-hosted pictures. Got any example posts you can point to?

It seems **Siam Sam **forgot his own sig advice. Messages, pictures; whatsa da difference? 
Or, you CAN add your picture to your public profile by going to UserCP / Your Control Panel (on the left) / Edit Profile Picture (it’s the third line down from “Your Profile”).
I’ve said it before but… I sure wish everyone would add their photos to their personal profile instead of linking to some offsite photo host or relying on Arnold Winkelried’s moribund SDMB Picture Gallery.
However, I don’t know if guests can add a profile picture.
I swear that said “pictures” when I posted it. I blame the switch on the Board’s new look.
