Pictures of My Kids (only, no pictures)

Gahh! Gaah, Tupug! That’s great!

Just got back from work, and am enjoying sitting down and having the cats yell at me. They’re saying, “You left us alone all day! We’ve been alone for five hours! Five whole hours!”. Good cats. Gmail seems to be malfunctioning, so if y’all have sent me more adoring emails, I can’t get them right now. It’s very sad.

We’re going to paint my bedroom dark, glowy red. Not quite burgundy- more like crimson. I love purple-burgundy-wine red colours. They’re fantastic

A curried potato sandwich, *scout is made by boiling a bunch of peeled potatoes with a couple of cloves of garlic. Drain them, and then sort of smash them (should be lumpy and textured) with a lot of curry powder or paste of choice. Yesterday I used some curry powder, some Patak’s Tandoori paste, and some hot pepper falkes. Add a little oil and maybe a bit of sour cream, too.

Toast a bun, and put gobs of potato on it. On top, place thinly sliced cheddar, hot sauce, and whatever else you feel like. Chopped onion would be good. Maybe lettuce. The hot sauce is important, though.

Squish the bun top down, and let it melt for a moment. I think the place downtown that makes them puts 'em on the grill. Eat. Apparently it’s a traditional breakfast somewhere in India, except the potato is deep fried before being put in the bun, and there’s no cheese.
Have I told you about potato, cream sauce, onion, and rosemary pizza before? Drool.

Everybody who hates AOL, raise your hand! Well, looka that-- I’ve got both my hands raised. I wonder if that means anything? They haven’t actually fixed whatever was wrong, but I can get on-line again, maybe.

You will be proud to know that I redecorated the cats’ bathroom this last week, and it only cost fifty dollars. That bathroom no longer amused me, it was a sort of Liberace if he were Victorian/french provincial deliberately horrifyingly girly. Shut up, the cats loved it.

Anyway, I didn’t like it anymore and took it all down and re-did it in soft buttery yellow golds, creams, and toffee brown wood. Because the stuff I already had was that color when I bleached it, so it was cheap. Then I went to Target and got stuff from their clearance area (like three bucks for a tissue dispenser that I painted a gorgeous toffee suede!) and a very nice dark gold curtain and big picture frame.

Why do I mention the frame? Because nothing I had on hand fit or looked good so I just slapped a piece of plain yellow wrapping paper in there. Two of the people who visited this weekend said they really liked my minimalist artwork. You can get away with that sort of stuff when people know you’re an artist.

Currently, there are no pictures of people anywhere in my house, except for the refrigerator. My mom is the one with all the pictures up, including the one of me in the second grade where I look like a blonde George Washington and my junior prom photo where it appears I’ve chosen a lampshade from a bordello for my dress. Next time I visit, I’m replacing them with squares of yellow wrapping paper.

A pox on beckwall’s lying sack of putrid pus of a student! That’ll fix him!

Puggy BWAAAHAAHAAHAAHAAHAA!!! That’s funny!

Ashes[sup]2[/sup] I want, nay, need to see a pic of you in that prom dress.

My home puter is fried, I think. I gotta get computer guy to look at it and tell me but I have a feeling the hard drive is gone. I already replaced a hard drive in the dang thing once. Maybe I’m being not so subtly told that it’s time for me to go ahead and buy a laptop. Sigh Oh well, I do have a big ol’ tax refund comin’ to me. Perhaps it’s just fate.
-swampbear (home computerless for now)

gardentraveler, chocolate chips are the ultimate dessert! Just thinking of popping a spoonful of the little nubbins of chocolatey goodness makes me swoon! Well, not really, but I lurrves me some choco chips.

liss, my goodness! tater sammiches and pizzas? My horizons are being considerably broadened. You make them sound so yummy!

ashes, I second the demand to see the prom dress! Was it satiny and red with black velvet stripes???

swampy, iffen you get a lap top, you can prolly log onto your network from anywhere and torture, er, contact your staff.

Tupug

Gardentraveler, I’ve got to agree with **Tupug **on this one. Plain choco chips by the handful (or the bag-ful) are awesome as dessert!

As for art, I’m a fan of photography. But I can’t really afford anything from a store. So I’ve asked a couple friends of mine who are good at photography for digital pix and then I print them out and buy frames at Target. I’ve got two really nice flower pix in the bedroom, a peony in the bathroom, and a b&w shot of a falling-down barn/shed type thing in the kitchen (it looks better than it sounds). Photography’s great and getting it free from friends, who are greatly complimented by having their pictures prominently displayed, is even better!

Carbs with extra carbs and fat are my speciality. An alfredo-sauced pizza with mozzarella, thin pieces of Yukon Gold potato, sauteed onions, and rosemary. I may have to make one soon, except Mr. Lissar doesn’t like onions. Well, i can make it for my lunches.

They’re doing construction outside. There’s a streetcar track right outside my building, and it runs almost from the east to the west end of the city. They’re replacing the whole thing, starting with my end. No more step-outside-and-onto-streetcar to get where I’m going. I’ve got to walk a block and a half to the bus stop! Aargh!

And it’s very noisy. Oh, well. We have earplugs.

That potato sammich sounds pretty tasty. I think that California Pizza Kitchen makes a pizza with potatoes on it - I’ve never had it, but recall seeing it on the menu.

My left nostril is stuffed today. Just the left one right now. I’m not feeling so hot.

I should get the stuff sent off today. I’m going to pick up the boxes while the laundry’s on.
Quasi-Daughter and I have gotten the painting schedule for next week figured out. By Wednesday night I should have a warm, snuggly, dark red room. With cream ceiling and woodwork, and hardwood floor. We’re going to paint in the evenings, when Mr. Lissar is awake, and safely hiding in the livingroom. Whee!

scout, I’m sorry you’re not feeling so hot. I hope you get to feeling better very soon.

FCM, I hope you’re feeling better today.

I am SOOOOOO sleepy. I just can’t stop yawning.

I just got off the phone with my mother. She is soooooo excited about my niece’s wedding. She, my bro and the SIL are leaving tomorrow for Chicago. LifeOnWry I’ll be sending ya an email from my work email since my home puter is fried right now. Look for it. I’ll identify myself so’s you won’t be all confused with a strange email and all. I hope we can figure out a time to meet this time.

You know how sometimes work is called off because of inclement weather? Well, why can’t it be called off sometimes due to clement weather? It’s really beautiful here today. Right now it’s 75F, warm and sunny. High will be around 80 F. I should be off right now to bask in the sun. Life ain’t fair!

scout feel better soon!

Take good care of yourself, Scout. That’s how my cold started last Wednesday afternoon, and I was sick as a dog until just yesterday. That’s why I wasn’t around Thurs. and Fri. (just pretend you’d noticed); I was in bed working my way through a box of tissues and half a roll of TP. Anything above the neck that *could * drip, was, with a vengance. But my sinuses still felt packed and my head hurt nonstop for four days. I was a mess.

I did come into work yesterday (and obviously I’m here today), partly because I felt better, partly because I couldn’t really miss any more work, but mostly because I couldn’t stand being at home anymore. And, of course, I missed all of you.

But mostly I couldn’t stand being at home anymore.

This year, for Easter, I bought my sister a pair of hot pink Tweezerman Slant-tip tweezers. I know it sounds odd, but she was thrilled, because she has heavy brows. They’re blonde, but since the style for brows now is groomed, they require a lot of maintenance (I go over my own brows daily. They’re not as heavy but they’re darker). Now she doesn’t have to borrow my Tweezermans all the time.

As to wall art, I don’t have a lot up right now for a couple reasons:

 1. This house is significantly larger than my last one.
 2. A lot of the walls are old plaster
 3. I prefer art that I or my sisters or friends have created over some over-priced print you buy at the mall that a million people have, too.
 4. A lot of the stuff I have is too small for the spaces; really high ceilings have a tendancy to dwarf a 16"x20" painting, and I don’t have enough similar items to create groupings (see #1)
 5. I have housemates with opinions, darn them.

All right, that was more than a couple.

What I do have in my dining room is a promotional banner for Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow, stolen from a theater. No, I did not do the stealing. But this thing is big and heavy, so once it went up on the wall, it stayed there.

So whenever you have dinner at my house, regardless of the occasion, Christmas, Easter, 4th of July, you will be treated to Christina Ricci’s heaving, larger-than-life bosom threatening to pop out of her bodice right above your head. And this was filmed before she lost that weight (not that she needed to, IMO), and actually had bosoms to heave.

I was going to link to the image, so looked around, but the best I can do is the cover of this book. If you click on the book, you can see a larger picture. The image on the front is what’s hanging in my dining room.

 • Wintermute, clear-headed for the first time in a week

So, nobody’s interested in an Art exchange? I have some cool stuff–I could scan it in and put it on my website.

Bet you’ll never guess where I went shopping last night!
Old Navy! You thought I was going to say Target, didn’t you?

Okay, I went to Target too. I’m addicted.
Wintermute, I got the Tweezerman slant-tip tweezers too! But mine are red.

I got a cute new skirt–it’s tan with yellow roses, and it’s flared on the bottom. Now I need a new top to go with it. I don’t wear skirts very often, so I feel all stylish and dressed up today! But only one person has said how nice I look. I thought more people would notice, because usually I’m not dressed this nicely. But in the past week, several people have asked if I got my hair cut. I did, a month ago! And some of these people see me every day! But at least they notice how good my hair looks, which makes me happy because I pay too much to get my hair cut, and it’s good to know I’m getting some results!

Lissla, the potato sandwich sounds yummy, but it would probably put me to sleep for the rest of the day!

scout, I hope you feel better! I hate stuffy nostrils. At least it’s not both, because it’s worse when you can’t breathe through your nose at all.

Funny, there was a time that I tweezed the brows daily but over time the hairs just gave up and quit. Now, it’s just a straggler every now and then. (Well, there’s got to be SOME benefit to old age!)

swampy, we should join a protest or somethin’ cause the people who live up nawth get those inclement weather days mostly due to snow which we never get. We should get “sun days” for when it’s just way too nice to be inside a building. Specially when you’re jonesing to go to the beach and wear your new bathing costume.

scout, is it too late for onna them new-fangled, stop-the-cold before it gets really going treatments like Airborn or Zicam? Hope you feel better.

magic, are a lot of your coworkers male? I’ve found that a lot of men these days fear to “compliment” women due to uncertainty as to what constitutes sexual harassment. Then again, you might work with a lot of insanely-jealous-of-your-beauty old crones.

Tupug

Medicine? Medicine! You think I’d actually take something for relief?

(I’m one of those people who never even thinks to take an aspirin when I have a headache.)

And I of course thought that Magic went to Target! But funny enough, I went to Old Navy this weekend, and bought not one but TWO skirts. Again, highly unusual. Of course, I also finally got a cell phone, so it was a weekend of weirdness, I guess.

Why don’t we have packing tape? We just moved a year ago! We bought eight hundred rolls of packing tape! Where did it all go?!

Can I use duct tape instead? We’ve got duct tape.
I am waiting for Mr. Lissar to wake up so that I can strip the bed and wash the sheets and quilt. Then I will run off to the mall before dance class in search of a long, loose, dark red or black skirt for summer. In the meantime maybe he will do the dishes. I can hope.

I really hope the rose jam doesn’t squish the KinderEggs. I am the World’s Worst Packer.

Hungry. I think I’ll heat up more potato sandwich stuff.

Unusual for me, too, but this is an exceptionally cute skirt. And on sale, too! Which skirts did you get? We need details!

I didn’t get a cellphone, though. I already have a cellphone.

Most of the people I work with are women, so they should notice these things! My boss is a man, and he’s not afraid to give compliments. He’s very cool. We got some “Jelly Smackers” stress balls that make lovely disgusting noises when you squish them. I gave him some of the stress balls for his kids, and he was having way too much fun throwing them at the wall to see if they’d stick.

I agree on the “sun days” idea–I’ve been saying that for a long time! But around here, if I took off every time it was nice, I wouldn’t be at work very much in the spring.

Hmm, no clothes shopping for me just paint and paint supplies. Lotsa and lotsa paint. The walls are coming along. Mr. Taters slapped coat two of the estate vineyard color on the walls adjoining the fireplace and it looks absolutely FAAA–BU-LOUS! However, we’ll need to hit some of the edges with another coat. Reds and varients thereof are very unforgiving. Tonight we’ll do that and the next night I’ll make the other walls meet up with with the stone brown walls with a teeny, tiny brush. Then we proceed to the kitchen area. After that, the front hall and entry way, then the stairs and the upstairs hall. After that, the downstairs powder room and the den. After all those rooms we’ll do the bedrooms, bonus room, and bathroom. The laundry room is not going to get painted. It’s fine and who cares about a stoopid ol’ laundry room anyway. I’m practically the only person who sees it.

Hubby is starting to feel uncomfortable w/the main wall color and is afraid it isn’t matching or even contrasting correctly w/ the estate vineyard. So now that has made me start to doubt my choices too. However, once I hang the new drapes and get an area rug which will pick up the estate vineyard and stone brown colors it will all tie in nicely…I hope. No, it should and it will. At any rate, more shopping for me! Yay!

Interestingly enough we have finally decided we need a cell phone too, not for us, but for the 15 yr old daughter. We have had two incidents in recent weeks where we couldn’t reach her and this made us realize that extra bill or not, we need the phone.

Aren’t they the best! I should probably get mine sharpened, but can’t live without them long enough to do it. Mine are basic black, but I’m thinking of investing in some of the pointed-tip ones, they say they’re good for fine hairs. If I do, I’ll get a color.

You don’t have any packing tape because you bought 800 rolls and are looking for only one. As soon as you don’t need it, you’ll find packing tape everywhere.

Yes, you can use duct tape.

Put the KinderEggs on top of the rose jam. Wrap the rose jam in bubble wrap or something soft if it’s in a glass jar.

Did that help?

All right, here’s me Old Navy haul:

This skirt in the light blue

A pleated skirt like this one except it’s in a different print I couldn’t find on the website.

To go with the first skirt, I bought this top, and I guess it’s a good thing, since it’s no longer available.

And then to go with the second skirt, I bought this cardigan.

Now I just need footwear!

Hie thee to the shoes thread young lady!

Oh, and Williams-Sonoma? Green is green , no matter how much you try to pretty it up.

Susan
