Why would I worry about what I’m going to look like when I’m 70? I’ve never understood this “logic” when people bitch about piercings or tattoos, especially piercings which are easily removed. To me, it’s like worrying about wearing polyester “old man” pants when I’m seventy, or having white hair. Who cares? I’ve got more important things to worry about than having piercings or tattoos when I’m 70.
I like to think that I’ll look back at all of my tattoos and remember exactly where I was and what my life was like at the time that I got it. I think it’ll be kind of fun to be an old man with tattoos, and having tattoos is the least of my aging-related worries.
For the record, I’ve had both nipples pierced twice at 12ga. They migrated out enough the first time that I took them out and got them repierced a year or so later, at which time I had enough scar tissue built up that both have stayed in just fine.
I got them pierced with rings, had the rings in for the first six weeks or so (it’s much easier to clean the new piercings with rings as opposed to barbells). Then I switched to barbells to avoid the migration issue. As an added bonus they seem less likely to get caught on things than rings. I’ve had them in for about six years now.
I thought they hurt a lot, in terms of piercings. They were the most painful piercings that I’ve ever had.
In order from most painful to least painful:
Nipples
Nostril
Labret
Septum
Earlobe
Prince Albert
Tongue (but the healing process hurt a lot)
I don’t have all of these anymore, but they’re what I’ve had over the years. Stretcing my ears was more painful than most everything but my nipples - I got them pierced at 12ga. (relatively thin wire) and used plugs to gradulally size them up to 2ga (about the thickness of the PaperMate ballpoint pen on my desk here).
As for sensitivity, they are more sensitive than they were before, and are much larger - I’m a guy (should be obvious based on the PA piercing). My wife digs 'em. But honestly they’re mostly decorative for me.
Anyone interested in piercing should check out BME for more info than you can probably handle. Trust me on that, especially if piercings freak you out.
