Pillows, sleeping, and the nine-month old.

Time to relax about crib contents?

The transition to flat land has been a bit … odd. First he was sick, then we were travelling and he was sick, then we were home and he was well, now we’re home and he’s getting over being sick.

A very long month and a half for a super active Wolfie.

So, he spends the first part of the night in the crib, but about midnight he wants up, and to eat, and to snuggle up with us (little heat vampire).

But he’ll snuggle even if we’re wrapped up in blankets, or he’ll curl up to the pillow barriers.

Now that he’s nine months, we’re less worried about suffocation, but the kid moves and kicks to snuggle to us. We’d like our bed back on occasion.

So last night, I tried to put him back down and this time, snuggled him up next to his nursing pillow (a home made boppy style pillow that’s a bit bigger than standard). He slept straight through until his 4am-dance fest. After the dance fest, he went back down with the pillow again.

Usually he’s up every hour or half hour until we just bring him to bed for the rest of the night, he’s active for 45 min at 4am, then is sound asleep until we wake him up at 6:30 or 7. For once, he wasn’t cranky getting up (hungry or overtired).

Too soon? The kid is crawling, madly, climbing (but doesn’t climb on the pillow and it won’t give him much leverage/height) …

When did you let your kids start sleeping with a pillow in the crib unattended?

I have a nine month old, too, and I wouldn’t have any problem putting him to bed with his boppy. It’s pretty firm - it’s not like he’s going to sink down into it and not be able to get himself away from it. I wouldn’t put a down pillow or something fluffy like that in there.

My son, since birth, has slept with a blanket pulled over his face. I was very nervous about it when he was just a month or two old, and would only let him sleep with this little soft lamb that he’d cover up with. Now he has a blankie that’s made out of fleece that he’s a bit attached to. He sleeps all night with it over his head. I think he’s trying to make me have a nervous breakdown.
