If you opened this you know I am referring to the great line in Pirates of the Caribbean in which Captain Jack Sparrow answers the accusation of cheating with a simple, yet slightly incredulous and sarcastic “Pirate?”.
I don’t know about you, but in my circle of family and coworkers, "Pirate has replaced “Duh” as an exclamation to indicate “of course” or “what did you expect?”
Am I alone here? Come on, lets add this to the lexicon!
[sub] I just wanted to say lexicon[/sub]
I feel the need to announce that I did not make that smilie, but found it on a website. It is someone else’s work–not sure if the mods have to ask permission to add it.
Speaking of pirates. A few months ago, at a late-night drunken poker game, we played a hand where everyone had to talk like a pirate. If you said anything normally (non-pirate talk), you had to put $1 in the pot.
It was great fun. Just imagine, 4 grown men and 2 grown women talking like pirates and playing poker.
I haven’t used “pirate” in place of “duh” before, and I’ve seen the movie twice, but I’ll start now. No one will understand, but no one understands me anyway.
Bah. Imagine instead three young white men drunkenly rowing a boat (well, a floating plank) into the middle of a lake in pitch blackness while talking like pirates… in two different Chinese dialects. However the hell that works. Easily the best drunken activity I’ve ever partaken in, since I didn’t drown.
