Pirates of the Caribbean 3; At World’s End trailer airs tonight…I heard it’s going to premier during Dancing With the Stars but, as I cannot bring myself to watch that show, I shall be catching it instead on my MySpace page, where I downloaded a “pirate player” countdown because yes, I am that dorky.
Although, I totally cheated and watched the Russian version of the trailer on YouTube yesterday before it was taken down, so I happen to know that the trailer rocks and that you all are in for a treat.
Well, this thread sank like a bloody anchor, didn’t it? But I do know that there’s a great deal of anticipation/dread regarding this movie on this board, so I thought I’d give it one more go now that the trailer is actually available for viewing (in English, no less!) here.
Go ahead, go watch it. I’ll wait…
Okay. So what do you think? Personally, I’m impressed. As much as I love these films I was a bit concerned that this was going to look just like more of the same, and it really doesn’t. The waterfall, the fleets of ships, the cannon battle on the edge of the whirlpool and, more than anything, Jack and Davy Jones’ swordfight, look absolutely brilliant!
Is anyone else excited for this movie? Anyone at all? crickets
There were things I liked about each of the two films, but not enough for me to consider either of them particularly “good”. Still, I know quite a few people who’ve worked on them, so I’ll probably get to see the film for free, so I’ll almost certainly see it once, but probably not more than that. One thing I predict though: it’ll almost certainly be much longer than necessary.
As I’ve said before, I am so looking forward to Barbossa’s return, more of Captain Jack , and Chow Yun-Fat (sp?). Can’t wait…will probably be there opening night, cause this is one of those years again where I desperately need such fluff.
I loved the trailer. I’ll definitely be there opening weekend. I just re-watched the second one last week. It’s still a bit of silly fluff, but it’s fun silly fluff, and I enjoyed it.
I was reading on one of the sites that the first cut of the movie was 3 hours long…so it looks like we’re looking at another 2 and a half hours. Not that it’s a bad thing.
Regarding the trailer…I can do without the love triangle but other than that it looks pretty interesting.
Yes, he is going to be in the movie as “Captain Teague”. The writers have made it very clear that his name is not Teague Sparrow, however, so this leads me to believe that either A, he is not Jack’s father, or B, Jack Sparrow is not Jack’s real name.
And regarding Miss Knightley:
Okay, she doesn’t get nude, but she does wear some pretty skimpy, hot little Chinese pirate numbers that I’ve seen in pictures.
Man, I’m totally psyched for this movie. It’s been ages since I’ve felt anticipation over a Jerry B. film, and almost never for an original Disney movie.
I’d say I’m looking forward to it even more than Hot Fuzz (by the makers/actors/etc. of Sean of the Dead), so I wanna see it a whole lot. I might even have to spring for the DVD set when it comes out later, and I own less than a dozen DVDs.
I don’t think this trailer does the incomparable Ms. Knightly justice, though I am looking forward to the skimpy outfits NailBunny promises. Everything else, though, looks cool. I really like the idea of them sailing the Straight Path to the Edge of the World… I wonder if that was a Tolkien influence, or just convergent evolution?
I’m also really wondering about the scene where the ship appears to be sailing in sand. Is this going to be part of the supernatural world, or do they somehow end up in the middle of the Sahara?
I’m not sure exactly what I should be spoilering here, as I’ve read so much about this film it’s kind of a grey area for me what is and is not considered a spoiler. Just to be safe:
Regarding the waterfall:
I believe it is both a reference to the ride, where you go over several little drops, as well as the literal “edge of the map” which they must sail off of to reach Davy Jones’ locker.
Regarding the desert:
This is Davy Jones’ Locker/purgatory/whatever you call it where Jack is stranded.
I had no idea about the ship sailing over the sand though, very cool visual!
Okay, besides the other PotC movies.
And I liked that movie, despite some people saying they didn’t. Their main complaint was that “it doesn’t have an ending!” Well duh, it’s part 2 of 3!
