She just covered it. Jerry Ragovoy and Bert Berns wrote the song, and Erma Franklin (Aretha’s older sister) first recorded it. Franklin’s version is clearly far superior to Joplin’s, IMO.
I can’t believe I forgot to mention a few by Heart. If Looks Could Kill really sounds like Ann Wilson is gonna kick some guy’s ass. A better known one is Barracuda. I didn’t really get what the lyrics were about until I saw the Wilson sisters being interviewed - basically their reaction to some smarmy record producer and the men in the recording industry in general- but the music conveys all you need to know.
