I tested the system in this Pit thread. Got a warning instead of a banning. (I wasn’t deliberately testing the system when I posted; just didn’t give a shit. I can only put up with stupidity for so long, which actually explains why I’m currently between jobs.)

Ah – so, what constitutes and official warning? I’ve gotten a “Mod note”, and I’ve been banned without warning (last year). An official warning must lie somewhere between those two.
An official warning will say “warning” somewhere in it’s text. Most(?) of the mods use the title field of their post. If it says moderator note, it’s not a warning.
I can understand why people thought Ed’s mistaken admonishment of **lizard **the other night could have been seen as a warning because Ed didn’t say one way or another. That’s confusing. As far as I know, we’ve never counted something like that as a warning, but like I said, I understand how people could think that it was. Of course, I clarified that it wasn’t a warning soon thereafter, and Ed did, too.

Accumulating a lot of warnings can result in a suspension or a banning. We keep track of them, and we check them if we are considering suspending or banning a poster. This is not a new development.

Because portraying me as a lunatic or an idiot is easier than answering inconvenient questions like “Where’s the evidence for God ?” When I post the same way as always about unpopular beliefs like the claim that the Moon landing was a hoax, suddenly I’m not unreasonable anymore.
It seems to me that you portray people of faith in the exact same way, as lunatics and idiots — perhaps because it is easier to dismiss as subhuman those who hold opposing views than to evaluate the evidence they offer with honesty and respect.
Obviously it’s in what you say, not how you say it. You couldn’t possibly come off in an overly aggressive and dismissive manner, because that would make you not a nice person.

I do “look at them with honesty”; it’s one of the things that makes me unpopular. As for respect, I see no reason why such beliefs deserve respect. And I don’t “dismiss the evidence” because there is none. Nor do I “dismiss as subhuman” those who disagree with me; calling someone foolish or insane or even evil is hardly that.
