I asked a question. Here’s the thread. Boom: Banned. Zotti never publicly acknowledged that he had banned me, and the title under my name never changed from “Charter Member”.
A couple of days later he (or somebody) changed my unjustified banning to an unwarranted suspension for a couple more days. Zotti owes me an apology, but I’m not holding my breath.
That doesn’t sound much like the replies that I received in this thread; witch is troubling because getting banned without warning seems to be the very thing that has gotten people so worked up over this issue.
For me, the irony is that I’ve spent way more time in Cafe Society or Great Debates than in the Pit, and have hardly ever called anybody a cunt.
In fact, after the last time I called Carol Stream a cunt, I decided it reflected badly on me and that I wouldn’t do it anymore. (Perhaps I should have simply taken the lesson that it’s pointless to address him or her at all. Though I do wonder if “Carol Stream” refers to the town in Illinois.)
But, I don’t accept Zotti determining what words I can use. It’s bad enough being given poorly-thought out instructions in service of bad policy by an incompetent administrator when I’m getting paid to be there. In the case of the SDMB, I’ve actually paid for the privilege, as well as helping supply the content without which the board wouldn’t exist.
I still hope things work out here. If I keep posting the way I usually do, there’s little chance of violating the idiotic new rule. On the other hand, just knowing there is a rule makes me want to violate it.
So far, I’m enjoying the new forum at http: / / domebo. net / forum (we’re supposed to not directly link to other message boards, right?)
Ed, I apologize about that. For these five months, I really thought you never made any public acknowledgement of what went down. I should have done my research first, or at least given you the benefit of the doubt. We are all imperfect vessels.
