Pitting Jim_B

I could have told you that’s what the post contained when I saw “VIEW 1 HIDDEN REPLY”

  1. Jim_B, alleging that others say he is “literally Hitler”
  2. Hi, Opal

There is something that bothers me about this whole thing.

I really enjoy Jim Bean. I have a bottle of it in my freezer right now. Mixing it with some diet cola is delicious. This thread now makes me not want to drink it. :frowning:

You should try Jim Beam sometime, too

Evidently, he has

Damn, if only I had that excuse.

Just move up the family tree and you’ll feel better.

Thank you for that chart. That is pretty awesome. I didn’t realize that Jim Beam and Maker’s Mark were the same folks. (And Knob Creek too.) :+1:

Thanks, I bookmarked this recipe.

I’ll probably have to make it for myself only, as Mrs. J’s list of acceptable mollusks to dine on does not include cephalopods.

Yes! I love that chart and I’ve used it to explore.

That is a cool chart. Thank you for sharing.

Back to the pittee, if I may, what is with all of the  ? It’s like “regards”; passive-aggressive bullshit.

No disrespect, but, insert disrespectful comment here.

I think it is part of his trolling toolkit. He thinks he can get away with saying almost anything by including a smiley.

There even was a thread recently about farming them commercially because they are delicious, but that does not mean you should wish to eat a poster by that name.

Oh, wait

Now, back to Jim_B: I tried to be constructive with regards to him. I suggested he get himself a pet, preferably a dog. I stand by that advice. Might do him good. The dog might disagree.

Also known as the Andrew Dice Clay gambit.

If he’s a troll, I’ll admit I took the bait in his Elton John thread. (I’ll also admit that I couldn’t quite articulate what was so offensive about that post, but I recognized the victim-blaming subtext). Based on his avatar, frequent use of emojis, and former sig, I assumed he was a shallow, anodyne sort - thinks pop music hit its peak with Burt Bacharach, and has the Serenity Prayer and the Footsteps in the Sand poster framed on his walls.

But based on his comments in this thread, as well as @Aspenglow’s calling out the implicit homophobia of his post, I’m leaning to troll.

Yup, thus the ‘technically’ and the huge but that immediately follows. It’s a classic “I’m not defending myself, but [long defense of self]”. Going back to the child analogy, it’s like they admit they were caught with their hand in the cookie jar, and they know it’s wrong, but then spends 20 minutes in tears saying how mean you are to make a big deal about it.

I make the difference in that the actions are similar, the reasons often aren’t. A child, as you correctly point out, has generally undeveloped moral education, and a lack of experiential history to override their (arguably) innate selfishness. An adult, especially of the reported age of Jim_B, has both. So a child and an adult may act supremely selfish, pouty, and trollish, but exactly as you say, one can grow out of it.

So you discipline and educate the child, and shun an adult troll.

And now I’m back to how said poster acts in a very childish manner, and not an endearing one.

Characteristics of Jimmy that I’ve noticed, which all may be a clever act, or could be genuine:

  • Believes himself to be an intellectual, while clearly not
  • Overly confident, but with enough self deprecation, to give off a faux humility vibe
  • When called out, portrays himself as an innocent, and its all a misunderstanding on his part
  • Wants to be seen as being current and “in the know” on controversial topics
  • Views the Dope as his place where he’s connected over decades

My vote is not a troll…but I believe that’s even sadder.

And yet he had a sloop named after him.
