Teachable moments only work when the person actually is willing to listen. But this is an ongoing issue with him. He keeps on with these clueless but trolly questions. It does not really seem to me that he’s interested in learning.
I find this one especially hard to believe is being asked in earnest. He’s claiming to be gay, but then is this unaware?
I can’t stand that guy as a poster. His OPs are idiotic and his responses are also stupid. I hate the way he phrases his posts, and how he ends his OPs with a bunch of smileys.
He’s absolutely useless as a poster. He never contributes anything to others’ threads and his own threads are idiotic.
Not having read it, I don’t have an opinion on his lesbian thread.
But I have noticed he creates threads and doesn’t return to them. Which is one indicia of a shit-stirrer.
It’s not proof positive, but it is something that impedes the flow of the conversation. IOW OPs like “Hey y’all, educate me about X and I’ll just lurk from now on.” aren’t very community spirited, even if the subject matter is benign. That’s not holding up your side of the conversation that we’re all here for.
And when the subject matter is not benign, it’s pretty much the definition of trollery: throw a bomb and gleefully watch the ensuing catfight among the crowd you attracted.
I don’t know what to think about Jim_B. in particular. But in general, I wish we were more welcoming toward “un-woke” people, as long as they’re not trolls and are at least open to learning and considering other points of view.
Fighting ignorance doesn’t mean driving away the ignorant people.
(Although, yes, I also realize there can be a conflict between being welcoming toward “un-woke” people and being welcoming toward those for whom their un-woke-ness might come across as hostile (misogyny, transphobla, etc.))
I’m just getting irritated with his threads on weight loss. He says he’s obese and flirting with the diabeetus, asks for advice and help on coping with that then ignores the thread when nobody reassures him that OF COURSE he can eat whatever sugary crap he wants in any amount and be perfectly okay. It’s super annoying and I’m not participating any longer.
This is the most annoying part. If the Discourse software is going to bark at me because I’ve replied to the same person 3 times in a 400 post thread, it could at least bark at someone for starting another thread when you haven’t posted in someone else’s in…months?
Idjit or troll, or troll playing idjit or idjit playing at troll. Doesn’t much matter. I’m not one to use the system’s ignore /mute features, but my mental “not worth bothering with” filter is gaining a new member today.
