brief set up. I’m taking some online classes in which you have to post discussions. One of these (American Government/Wyoming Government) the Gulf War 2.0 subject came up. One of the other students posted some total drivel on how she couldn’t ‘believe the responses given’ and stuff like ‘some people think they can do better then the president’ and my favorite ‘I feel our nation could be much different right now, and terrorist acts most likely would have followed after September 11th. Up until that day, it seems as though great majority of Americans had forgotten the importance of our freedom, and took it for granted. Some of us, however, do greatly value that gift, and don’t want it ever taken away.’’. I responded fairly evenly but tore her post to bits you know like asking for facts. This was her reply.
(my reply was once again even handed telling her that this is indeed a class where different views are put forth and I was debating the point with her she was painting people with a broad brush and that’s a fallacy) However this is the post I wanted to make.
‘my post didn’t state anything pointing a finger’
Yeah well no shit. Call me ‘some people’ all you like I know I was the one you were talking about. Nobody else in the class was doing anything but sucking Bush’s dick. Even if you were talking about those goddamn tratiors that dare question our leader I’m one of those people anyway.
‘this is a government class, where people have different views and opinions.’ Appearently except for mine.
‘because I do not take the time or effort to prove people incorrect, or pick fights with others. Usually I am outspoken, against the norm’
So you’re a loudmouth that can’t back up the stuff she says? Great. Nice to know. If you can’t defend your point of view please shut the fuck up. I’ve had plenty of debates I’ve hotly disagreed with the person but respected their ability to make points. And how can you be outspoken but not be trying to convince people of a new thought? Maybe you’ve spent too much time at pep rallies to tell the difference. As for against the norm were are you posting from anyway? Unless it’s the Liberal Media Headquarters I doubt your views are signicantly against the norm. In fact I’m sure you’re from Wyoming too so get down from your cross already.
‘I feel sad that you decided to take words so personally’
And I feel sad you have no idea how to debate and assume a rebuttal is the same as an attack. After your little post I re-read my post three times only one statement (taking issue with being called some people and told I should just shut up or run for president) could even be considered even mildly annoyed.
Ok lame rant I know but I’m sure several other dopers on here wished a post in a forum was here in the pit so you could say what you REALLY thought. (please contribute your own)
This is hilarious. Utterly hilarious, but also … why does she even bother? It seems as though she doesn’t care about what she says or how anyone reacts to it, which seems to me to be a lovely mask for someone who wants to be more educated on issues both past and present but is too proud to be seen reading a book or asking a question. Instead, she hides behind Joan Patriot, and anyone who questions her is reacting personally, not taking her argument to task.
Heh you pinpointed the exact reason that I wanted that post to be here in the pit. No matter how many times I read it I just don’t understand WTF she’s talking about.
That is fucked up to run into that kind of shit in an academic environment. I had something like that happen to me once in a nite class I took, some kind of Sociology class I think - long time ago. Anyway the class was some kind of requirement for a law enforcement degree (unknown to me) and I stated some of that left-wing shit and all those cops started tearing me a new asshole. Anyway the instructor regains the floor - and get this, he begins tearing me a new asshole. Being in a minority position sucks.
Oh yeah, now I remember, I said that I thought the kids who went to Canada to avoid the draft had in effect served their country thru their protest (By leaving the U.S) of the Vietnam war. Damn that was funny.
Sounds to me like you are posting on a discussion board primarily dominated by conservative viewpoints. This may make you feel frustrated, and perhaps “on the outside looking in”, especially if those that hold the same viewpoints pat each other on the back and defend each other (as cliques seem to do).
What you need is a board where the opposite is true.
Psycho Pirate I can deal with conservative viewpoints. Considering I’m fairly moderate myself (I really really hate bush however) I agree with some conservative points.
I can’t deal with idiots. Esp ones that declare they are out spoken but don’t back up their own views.
