The moral of this story (getting it out of the way in advance): A game’s message board is not the place for intelligent political discussion. As a matter of fact, uninformed only begins to describe it.
Case 1
I see someone has posted that they believe anti-war protests should not be allowed. The logic? They are terror targets. After being presented with the first amendment, the debate shifts topic entirely. Interesting.
Case 2
Direct quote: “Do you really think non-violent dissent is good.”
This person’s position? Non-violent dissent does not work. If we had not used violent dissent, we’d still be a colony! When I asked if this meant that I should shoot some senators if I disagree with the US government’s policy, their response was - surprise! - no. Apparently neither violent nor non-violent dissent is ok for this person.
Case 3
Quote: “I don’t agree with it and it’s nice to know that Judges are pretty “understanding” about assault charges against those who stop Flag Burners with fists.”
This person was saying that they were glad someone who beat up a flag burner got only a $10 fine. My respose was:
“You think it’s “funny as hell” that judges are giving little or no punishment to people who break the law in order to silence those who are expressing their constitutionally protected rights? You cannot possibly be serious.”
His response?
“Yes. I DO find it funny as hell.”
Draw your own conclusions.
This is not the worst. Things get much, much lower.
There are people on the sides of all of these arguments that have good points and logical, well-reasoned explanations for their positions.
I hate it when people take an I’m right, You’re wrong, no matter what stance on an issue. Really pisses me off.
I’m not going to subject you to this forum, either. You don’t deserve that.
