That is, of course, if being found not guilty in a 2nd Degree Murder case, in and of itself, implies that the use of deadly force was justifiable. It would seem like it does, but I’ll let the lawyers on the board debate that.
Bull-fucking-shit. I did not come to his defense. I do think he’s a racist, I just don’t think that particular post was hate speech by the standards of what gets posted here all the time w/o moderator smack-down.
Some reporters seem to be almost disappointed by the lack of riots.
I’ve seen people on Facebook today express sorrow and compassion over the death of Cory Monteith- the 30 year old actor from GLEE whose death was most probably drug related and therefore avoidable- whose compassion for Martin was noticeably lacking. It’s interesting how people parcel out their sympathies.
And you feel it necessary to press this trifling point for what reason? If he’d call the kid a nigger but didn’t use the term to mean all blacks, please tell me you’re capable of seeing the folly in quibbling over whether this was hate speech or not.
It’s not a trifling point. Reasonable people can disagree about whether or not that post was hate speech, by the standards of what passes for non-hate speech on this message board. That does, of course, assume the people having the discussion are “reasonable”. I’m not sure that applies to you wrt this subject.
That’s clearly within the bounds of what gets mod’ed for hate speech here.
You’re convinced he committed those crimes, based solely on the fact he was accused? You don’t need any sort of rigorous fact finding? Someone said it, so it must be true?
A rigorous fact finding would be necessary for a conviction in a court of law.
For my own opinion, based on what I’ve read, I am sure he committed those crimes. He’s a violent, impulsive man who has been in trouble with the law, and will be in trouble again.
That would be irrational. Rational is accepting the facts of the case, that the defendant shot the victim and the victim died. But anyway, I had no preference in the matter, I support this verdict, and I’d also support it in the case of Martin’s family contriving a situation in which someone shoots Zimmerman in self defense. That is the lesson I took from this.
