Pitting UltraVires

Because what he does isn’t trolling by SDMB standards. He mostly good at avoiding trolling. Remember, I’m the one that tried to suspend him for 30 days for his New Year’s Eve mask complaint. I was shot down immediately. By SDMB standards, that isn’t trolling.

I’ll also remind you that stupidity and ignorance are protected on the SDMB. If you remember that little tidbit, it explains a lot.

Another one to remember is that holding and expressing unpopular opinions is not against the rules.

Pineapple belongs on pizza!

You know, we have standards. Even in the pit.

You’ve got to add bacon and jalapeño to the pineapple.

Goddammit, I wish I could ban you.

That might be more about “stupidity and ignorance are protected on the SDMB”.

Shit.

A damn pineapple, bacon, and jalapeño pizza sounds good.

What’s wrong with me?

The addition of bacon and jalapeno makes that pineapple pizza sound really not so weird anymore!

Has definitely entered the “I will try that” zone.

I’ve never tried that combo with bacon, but I have had a pineapple, pepperoni, and jalapeño pizza before. Was pretty good, IIRC. Bacon sounds better, though.

First off, this was an aside mentioned out of frustration, so I don’t want to elaborate too much. But I do wish to make it clear I did not mention anything about stupidity, ignorance, or unpopular opinions. I claimed that he is often disingenuous in ways that seem designed to infuriate. I know determining if someone is trolling is a mod judgement call. But it still seems weird to me that he still gets the benefit of the doubt after his suspension. That hasn’t historically been the case.

I also wish to make something clear. But a disclaimer before I do: I am not accusing you (or anyone else specifically) of believing or claiming otherwise.

Part of my post was discussing bigotry. And I wish to reiterate that bigotry is not merely an unpopular opinion. And, when someone has been repeatedly informed, ignorance and stupidity cease to be valid excuses. There is a difference between an ill-informed or unpopular opinion and something that is incompatible with a civil society.

I say this simply because a lot of bigots try to hide behind this. They want to treat their arguments like a favorite ice cream flavor or pizza topping.

Speaking of which, my opinion on pineapple pizza is that it’s fine. Not amazing, but not bad. The main issue is that the sweetness and somewhat intense tanginess can cover up other flavors or toppings. If the internet “debates” were any indication, it would seem my opinion was the most unpopular opinion.

Y’all are making my favorite anchovy and pineapple pizza look mundane by comparison.

Hawaiian pizza is one of my favorites.

Pineapple, sausage and onion!

It’s great. The thing about pineapple is that it has to be balanced out. This combo gives you:

Pineapple, for sweet and acid.
Bacon, for fat and salt and smoke.
Jalapeno (fresh, not pickled), for spice and a clean veggy flavor

It’s like a holy trinity of flavors, with everything helping to round out everything else.

I don’t know. Complete lack of taste? Some kind of weird masochism? A deliberate effort to make yourself hate pizza?

Look, pal, a pizza begins with what is basically bread crust, then tomato sauce and cheese. That’s the foundation. In what universe, when you think of pineapple, do you immediately think: gee! – bread, tomato sauce, and cheese would go well with that? Maybe if you’re Jabba the Hutt, in a galaxy far, far away, but not in this one. If I was king and could make laws …

I don’t like the taste or texture of any type of jalapeno. I’d prefer almost any Capsicum cultivar to jalapenos, including the bell peppers that pizza places put on their pizzas. They must get them from a place known for growing flavorful varieties or prepare them in a special way because when I put bell peppers that I bought at a grocery store on my pizza, it tastes like nothing but water. But i’d agree that a piquant pepper would add something to the mix.

I also like the combination of pineapple and bacon. My preferred combo is pineapple, bacon, and pepperoni. If I could find one of those less-hot habaneros that are only around as hot as a jalapeno, that might be a good addition too, because I like the habaneros texture and flavor, but the strength of its heat distracts from a food’s balance.

Aleppo pepper flakes. A little smoky, and a step up in heat from the generic shaker pepper flakes. I find they really balance out the pineapple nicely.

Even better as a calzone.

I believe he’s disingenuous in ways that protect his self-image as “not a massive asshole, despite so many people telling him his opinions are those of a massive asshole”, which is infuriating, but not by design.

Then again I’ve muted him because his shitty posts are so infuriating, so I could be wrong.

And pineapple is always bad. Fruits should not digest humans, it should always be the other way around.

I’d go with the sweet chilis (bell peppers) myself. I can’t take much capsaicin.
