We just rented it on Netflix. My son and I both LOVED it. I especially like the Centipede battle scene.
To those of us who blew alot of quarters on video games, and you others, what did you think?

I thought it was good. It could have been done a lot better, but it was solid, speaking as someone who also spent a lot of time in arcades in the early 80s. But I can see why people without our experience can’t find much to like in the movie. It’s kinda silly.
I don’t understand the low ratings by critics, myself. It’s not high art, just a second-tier*, absurd, sci-fi comedy. In that regard, it was fun as hell. Even some decent LOL moments. B- from me.
*I’d put movies like Ghostbusters and Back to the Future as first-tier, sci-fi comedies.
I thought the concept was interesting (though Futurama did something similar years ago) but I avoided it at all costs in the theater. My rule of thumb, if the movie has Adam Sandler in it, there’s no way I’ll waste my time and money on it.
For Halloween, my friend had a shelf set up with several large, ominously locked chests in his living room. They were labeled, “Cursed Artifacts,” “Cursed Talismans,” “Cursed Relics,” and “Adam Sandler Movies.”
If they do a sequel what video games would you like to see?
My list:
Space invaders
Spy Hunter
Mr. Do
Time Pilot
Yep, he’s my instant signal for “Don’t even watch this movie on basic cable. No matter how comatose, find the goddamn remote so you can sleep.” And I’ll torture my wife with any of the Fast n’ Furious movies or Starship Troopers re-broadcasts just because they’re within my threshold of “knows that it’s bad”.
Asteroids (I think they mentioned it, but didn’t show it)
Dig Dug
Joust (I think I saw some flying ostriches in the background chaos, but not an actual fight)
One thing I hated in the movie though, was the cutesy Q-bert character. Totally unnecessary—it didn’t even end up on any Happy Meals. gag
I just watched it last week with my kids, and we all thought it was great. Lots of jokes they liked, lots of jokes directed to old arcade goers like myself.
Kevin James as President Chris Christie was much funnier than Adam Sandler though.
This is exactly why I avoided it. Tried it on Amazon one night, I own a digital copy now.
I agree, except for Punch Drunk Love.
I didn’t see the movie as I can barely tolerate Adam Sandler at the best of times but I’m glad the movie was made as it gave me a chance to watch this hilarious (NSFW due to language) video review.
He didn’t like the movie.
I thought “The Waterboy” was good.
I thought it was pretty good, it certainly didn’t deserve what the over-the-top negative reviews from critics, I mean you are aware its an Adam Sandler film right.
I don’t know why but for some reason I just lost my shit when the guy said JFK shot first, the mental image it created in my head just had me laughing for like ten minutes.
The benchmark should be more “if Adam Sandler was involved in any way with the production other than as an actor.” Hotel Transylvania (the first at least) was actually good because it was a Tartakovsky picture that happened to have Sandler as the lead actor.
