I ordered a pizza tonight from a large, hutt-sized pizza chain (wink, wink.) I got tonight’s special, which was $10.99, gave the delivery boy $13 and sent him on his jolly way. He seemed to be rather pissed at my $2.01 gratuity. Is that a good tip? What do you tip the pizza boy?
Did they charge a delivery fee? If so, that may have eaten up the tip.
A roughly 18% tip? Sounds pretty good to me.
No delivery charge that I’m aware of.
Thanks guys. Just wanted to make sure I’m not the asshole here.
If my opinion helps any, I am a delivery driver for a “large, hutt-sized pizza chain”. I honestly don’t really expect a tip. I say an enthusiastic thank-you after someone tips me. The only time I sort of not be “kiss-ass”, is if I deliver out of town and I don’t get a tip. People who complain about the amount of a tip are asses.
For what it’s worth, the Pizza Hut that delivers to our campus does charge a delivery fee (1 USD), but it’s added to the cost of the pizza. This always causes confusion because we don’t know whether it’s going to the driver or to the store. If to the driver, then it should be considered when tipping. If to the store, then it shouldn’t I guess. We figured that it was added to make sure that the driver gets at least a small tip when delivering to us cheap ass/poor college students. Anyone know?
Well on the delivery charge the kfc lady says they got 60 cents of every dollar
Since pizza hut and kfc is owned by the same company(tricom ) I’d think it was the same policy
Our delivery charge is 1.75. It is added to the cost of the pizza. If you order a 10 dollar pizza, chances are that it'll be around 13 dollars if delivered. (delivery charge and tax included). I also get paid .75 per each delivery I take. That is for the cost of gas and such. Tipping is a “gift” that you give because you like the way the person served you and brought your pizza to you quickly.
Note to pizza-orderers: delivery people for independent pizza places usually do NOT get a portion of the delivery charge. I say this because I have a few friends who need to live off their tips. My feeling on this is, when in doubt, tip.
I think your tip was generous. If he expected more, that is his problem, not yours.
I figure since the deliveryperson went to extra trouble to get it to me, I tip about $3.00 on an $11.00 pizza bill. The deliverypeople always seem quite appreciative. I used to be a waitress in college so I try to be generous.
