PJD strikes again in the MMP

Morning everyone. 34F in Texas this morning, with predictions of low 20s in a few days (last I looked anyways).

Spent yesterday winterizing the camper and re-starting the hot tub (we shut it down during the warm months). As usual there were a variety of small issues and leaks in the 20 year old tub that needed fixed, but it’s running and chemically safe to enter this morning (shocked it yesterday). I plan to test it out in a few minutes, as part of my RDOS responsibilities. I try to be as lazy as possible as an inspiration to others. Gotta lead with your strengths, amirite?

In other news, the long-running relationship of one of my adult kiddos fell apart during Thanksgiving. And we’re now providing moral and physical support for a new apartment, new town, new everything. It’s rough but we’re trying to be there. Right now my wife has traveled to be with them, helping extract belongings from their former home - and so far the ex is being very cooperative and even helping. Let’s hope this continues. I’m on the hook in a week or two to provide a truck, trailer and driver so the heavy stuff can be relocated. The only thing I’m sure of, is that the outcome of this is very unpredictable. Y’all know how that stuff plays out sometimes, right?

But I am enjoying the quiet and having the house to myself for a few days. Just an extra dog to take care of, and my dog is thrilled to have the company.

So for today? Check the spa chems one more time, enjoy some RDOS soaking either with coffee or beer (depending on the hour). And try to keep the crazy dogs from hurting themselves or random objects (they’re partially insane - I swear).

Off to breakfast and hot tub and couch and my latest streaming show.

Hope everyone has a good week.

Shouldn’t that read “FCD, who wanted a dog and promised to take care of it, will do something about the firewood”? I’m not dissing the dog, but you seem to be doing an awful lot of the work, plus getting bruised and contused.

Breakfast today with house guest, then either hanging by the fireplace or driving somewhere pretty if weather cooperates. It could be cold but sunny.

Would that things were that simple… In this as in most relationships, one picks one’s battles. FWIW, I suspect he’s not as thrilled about having a big dog as he was at the idea of having a big dog. I shall continue to withhold “I told you so” to preserve the marriage.

The buzzing collar continues to save my arms, so there’s that.

Just made a shrimp salad and it smells amazing. Not sure if it should be lunch or supper. I want some NOW!

Indeed. I just don’t want to see you get stuck with a whole lot of dog care.

Hey all! It’s been a while since I’ve participated in the MMP. I’m glad it looks like everyone is doing well.

Thanksgiving went well. Fang, my oldest graduated and got his commission last May. He spent the last six months at Fort Lee in Virginia training with the Quartermaster School. He is now at Fort Hood, in Texas. Since he does not have any leave built up, he couldn’t come to us for Thanksgiving, so we came to him for “Combat Thanksgiving”. His kitchen was woefully unstocked, so we set him up with cooking utensils and a roasting pan. The house he bought has all new appliances, including a very nice convection oven. Now I have Oven Envy.

Mrs Magill and the younger two drove down from Nashville on Saturday, and I joined them Wednesday. Throughout the week, I kept getting requests to pack something else. I ended up with three ratchet straps, two prescriptions, carpet cleaning spray, and earbuds. I sent her the below picture, reminding her that she promised to bail me out of Airport Jail. After talking with the nice TSA agent walking around the departures area, I decided it would be better to check my bag. As it turned out, the price delta for checking a bag and a last minute upgrade to first class was ten bucks, so I got to sit in the Front Row.

We drove back Friday, on the theory that most people would travel on Saturday and Sunday. It turns out we were right. The roads were not bad at all. I also learned that if you drive the speed limit, you can get from the Buck-ee’s north of Dallas to the Costco east of Memphis one one tank of gas. It drove Mrs Magill nuts, but my logic was that a pit stop always costs us fifteen minutes. Driving the speed limit cost us ten.

That is everything happening in Magill-ville that I am prepared to share at this time.

It didn’t seem busy, but with all the Blueberries, thinks looked messy. At one point I was pulling add/cuts off of a package car. All the cuts were supposed to be in the Rear Door Right position. Let’s just be charitable and say chaos would have been an improvement on his loading style. Also, htere was a trailer that was 40% out of center, and guess who had to help deal with that mess. But a nice short 10 anna half hour day. I did my Aldi run, so now it’s naptime.

Also, Happy Cyber Monday!

Have you tried it on FCD?

Happy noon-time in North Ali-bama. Still cold (I know, 42F isn’t cold to most of you but down here it is downright frigid). Shopping has been completed and the Jersey Mike’s #2 has been assimilated, so will probably pack my gym bag and head off to sweat off some of that turkey and pecan pie I consumed this past week (not to mention the snackage on the trip home yesterday). Rain is still promised but not until 4pm and maybe I can get in and out of the gym before it starts (we’ll see, but I’ll pack an umbrella just in case…). Otherwise have done nothing useful for the day.

Knots, I’m getting a pretty busy mailbox with Cyber Moanday offers too, and while technology has improved, tradition! still rules the roost…

red, enjoy Nelson’s visit and happy butt-moving day!

My goal in life.

Nettie, glad Anonymous knew where things were warm and the food was good…Buddy was probably thinking “Hey, that was my shtick…”

Yanker, sorry for the kid’s breakup, life happens and sometimes it’s ‘fecal matter’. Hope it all works out. Enjoy your soak-time.

Maus, good to see you around, conga-rats to the Grad, is he living on-post or does he have an apartment on the economy? And good driving plans, made it back here on one tank and still have leftover fuel for a day or so of in-and-around.

And guess I’ll gather up the gym shorts and t-shirt and towel and socks and anything else I’ll need and head on over to the gym. Take care.

Because the Army had paid for his schooling, he was able to save his share of his tuition for a down payment on a starter home. The credit union has very good rates for officers. He did say that he’s going to try for on-base housing for his next posting.

Sun comes up during my commute, so I’m technically going to work and coming home in the dark.

Also gray here. At least it was, before it got dark. The only stars we can see are the light-up ones - too many clouds in the sky.

Figured out that we have cheese from Switzerland and Germany, so we have enough for a cheese pilgramage Spain (Manchego) → France (Valençay) → Switzerland (Le Maréchal) → Germany (fresh cheese) → Netherlands (Fransje and Remeker).

Tonight’s cheese is Fransje - very yummy. Only have a small bit, so it won’t last long. I’ll finish it tomorrow.

Speaking of which, we have to get to bed early as hubby has to get out the door a bit earlier so he can go to Italy tomorrow. And he’ll be home again tomorrow evening, so it will be a LONG DAY as we’re not that close to the Italian border.

Yay!

While I’m more involved than I prefer to be, he has taken on the majority of the chores and care. And before we found the buzz collar, he was ready to surrender the dog to the rescue group, which, IMHO, would not be fair. Otis is coming along well with his training, but we are having to overcome whatever his past months were like. I’ll whine, but overall, he is a sweet beastie.

No need - he cowers at The Look. PS - thanks for the earworm! :stuck_out_tongue:

We had to run down to the marina, so I took a pic of the installed platform. From below, tho - I don’t like climbing scaffolding.

Temp is all the way up to 47 Ferrets!! A veritable heat wave. (If I say it enough, I might believe it.)

I’m glad to hear it!

A delightful idea.

Church Guy came over and took the boots he got me back to exchange because the leg parts were bothering my legs.
He got me short tan colored ones with more wool inside.
He likes to drive.
We are to get 2-5 inches of snow tomorrow and I am already over it.
I want to be in a southern state next winter.

Happy Monday!

I had a wonderful Thanksgiving with the kids. The turkey was moist and tender, the mashers had no lumps–everything was perfect and delicious, especially the dishes the kids brought. And since I sent leftovers home with the kids and our Friday brunch guests, my fridge is no longer crowded.

The sweet, chill cat I’ve sat for, must be rehomed because his person’s grandchild is now allergic. I’m sad. I hope she finds a good home for him. He’s fine with dogs, but of course, not all dogs are fine with him.

Today I have to go to UPS to return the ColoGuard box. I have an urge to draw flowers all over it or cover it with scratch-and-sniff stickers to make it more pleasant, but I get the impression the ColoGuard people have no sense of humor, so I won’t. I also need to mail my sister’s birthday gift and stop at the grocery store for more produce.

Some days I’m up to see the sunrise; some days I’m not. I’m all willy-nilly like that now that I’m retired. When I was working, it was usually dark when I got to work at 6:30 and dark when I left at 5:00. My blinds were always closed–opening them involved climbing on the counter and assuming yoga poses like Bug on Windshield and Cow on Ledge. When kids asked to open them, I said no, because “I don’t want you to remember that there’s a free world out there, and you’re not in it.”

Taters, I know just what you mean! It was so serene when I got to work at 6:30. The custodian would come in, say, “Nellie, how the hell are ya?” and that’d be the only voice I’d hear for awhile. I also got the printer and the copy machine without lines. I’ll always think of you waiting in your car for Haggen’s to open so you could buy a yogurt.

Doggio, you are the Oscar Hammerstein of your generation.

Your guess was better than mine. I thought it meant “peanut butter and jelly dessert”. I hope next week you can start the MMP and name it after yourself, as I think “SuntanLotion in the MMP” would be a fun title.

Have you morphed into a bloodhound, or is there some implied reference I don’t know?

wow! gorgeous! y’all do amazing work.

the weekend is over and back in the office. i’m suffering from pumpkin pie withdrawal.i ended up having a cherry pastry for lunch.

so far i have resisted the cough. back to somewhat normal. i didn’t get anything done on my “to do” list. mostly read, watched tv, and cuddled cats.

one thing i watched had me thinking of scareyfaerie, as it was a “silent witness” episode. they were going though many, many bins looking for body parts. apparently, someone thought to hide bits throughout a street or two. they also put a body in the recycle bins… seriously! bodies go in the compost bin, everyone knows that.

Snow ended up coming earlier and harder than everyone expected, and the city is all tangled up. Instead of teaching until six and having rehearsal until ten, I taught until 1:30 and went home.

We got the cats an interactive play may and a bunch of plastic spring toys. They have gone insane.

The dog is extra active this evening. Probably cuz I worked all day and yesterday when I was home all day she napped.

Howdy Y’all! We actually accomplished a few chores today. Not much, mind you, but still there was productivity. Of course RDOS inactivities were the greater part of the day. Rain is supposed to start in the next hour and hang around throughout the mornin’. We shall see. Sup got fixed and et and the biiiiiig trash can got hauled all the way back up the driveway to where it stays. Now to see whatup on teh intartoobz.

Wow, a blast from the past on FB. I look at some Seabee pages on there and someone who apparently remembered me sent me a group photo of the rifle team we threw together on Guam in 1977 to challenge the COMNAVMARIANAS rifle team, who were local champions (we won). I didn’t remember this guy, but it was fun to see the photo.

I had a beating with La Jefa this afternoon, so go over the ‘transition’ (to me being unemployed). She said I could let our contributing members know that I am ‘leaving’, and to let them know that I’ll be available until February 5th (Unless I find another job! HA!) So I’m doing that, and occasionally saying that I’m open to positions.

Mrs. L.A. woke up with a bad calf cramp this morning, and she’s been complaining about cramps in her lower back. She bought some bananas on the way home. Independently, I decided to make salmon tonight. (I mixed up some butter and garlic pesto to put on top, and served it was ‘California-style’ mixed veg – broccoli, cauliflower, and carrot chips.). It turns out that a serving of salmon has as much potassium as a banana. She liked it better than the Costco version.
