The subject line pretty much says it all. I turned on the show a couple of days ago and noticed that poor old Matt Gallant wasn’t hosting anymore. Did he just pack it up, or did somebody finally notice the man couldn’t tell a joke to save his life?
Gee, I haven’t watched that show recently, and didn’t know that Matt Gallant was gone. Did they replace him with someone entertaining? I love the videos, but the narration was usually painful.
I’m not surprised he’s gone–what puzzles me is why they didn’t fire him a long time ago. It’s a lot more fun to watch the show with the sound turned off. And the way he smiles is very vaguely creepy.
My World’s Funniest Animals Story: My grandma’s cat Minnie died last year, and she was heartbroken. Last time I visited her, she handed out photos of Minnie to all of the grandkids, and she got all choked up. She’s usually very stoic, so it’s unusual for her to be that emotional. She likes her routine–every evening, she watches Andy Griffith, the news, Wheel of Fortune, and it’s off to bed about halfway through Jeopardy. I don’t remember if it was a holiday or a weekend, but the usual shows weren’t on, and that upset her a bit. So I was looking around for another show to watch, and World’s Funniest Animals just happened to be on. So I suggested we watch that, which was good because it made her laugh. Now Animal Planet is one of Grandma’s favorite channels.
I would love to download a clip featuring two cats; a small black-and-white kitten and an adult orange cat. The kitten waves his forepaws wildly at the cat for about ten seconds, presumably trying to look menacing. The cat, unimpressed, then jumps on the kitten, flattening him. It cracks me up just thinking about it.
I watched that a few times, for the cute aminals. That Gallant guy though, he made my stomach turn. His “jokes” could be considered a form of torture. And he just tried way too hard. And that smile…euuuugh. shiver
I always imagined it was the rictus of a failed actor and the gleam in his eyes was a desperate cry for help.
I used to think the show was funny until I watched it with my aunt, a veternarian. It seems like every other funny animal behavior was a seizure waiting to happen. Evidently, lots of the “strange” animal behavior are classic signs of impending brain disorders. It made the show kinda sad…
That is precisely what we thought. He always had a look of “Can they just kill me now and get this over with?” at the end of every joke. The poor man never looked happier than when he was signing off.
I saw him recently on one of the DirecTV channels - one of the channels that explains how it works and how to use your remote and all of that sort of thing.
