Rumors of another server merger , helios/genudine with connery

They’re doing another double xp weekend because they botched the last one up with a half broken patch, so now is a good time start. Also the in game currency is having a 2x sale, you get twice as much if you buy it.
Anyone else having trouble with the latest patch?
I crashed within 10 minutes of starting the game twice in a row. I think it’s a memory leak, or at least poor memory management. I tuned the graphics to low (I had been running on high with no trouble until now) and I managed to play, but the client was taking over 3GB of memory.
Other than that, gameplay is getting better. I had a bit of “insomnia” last night and played for a while after the double xp started. I was part of a large mechanized column. I started out in my own Lightning, but ended up just running around repairing other vehicles and popping into open turrets (vehicular and fixed).
Being part of a large force is fun, but it’s even more fun when you encounter organized resistance. Immediately after took some large base, a relief column of Vanu hit us. It was a long fight, that we eventually lost, but tons of fun.
squad comms was squirly for a while needing a logout/restart to correct. other than that it all seamed OK this morning after the patch.
I suspect not much squad activity this weekend , just lots of zerg fights and biolab deathfests as people rack up certs
I was operating an anti-air turret last night and saw a Liberator piloted by SenorBeef fly past. I shot at them, but they were too far out to get many hits.
You must’ve been by the NC warp gate right before we capped it, cause that’s the only time we were up in a lib. We capped Indar with 29% of the server pop in primetime. No way that’s ever been done before.
Yep. I was in one of the towers just outside the warp gate. I’m NC of course. I logged out before it was capped. No one you could’ve done it while I was there.
The fixed turrets are really fun these days, but there’s some infantry weapon that needs to be nerfed, because I was taking one hit from something and then burning out. Or maybe those turrets were bugged.
Sorry, but I think it’s highly useful, and I’d rather thank him for having posted it. If someone wants to recruit for a game, I’d prefer to read what might be wrong about the game right away, and it’s even better if I can read it conveniently in the very same thread.
In fact, I was wondering why he had put a spoiler tag on his comments.
Besides, I’d add that his comments where much more informative than your OP, because I had essentially no clue about the type of game we where talking about after reading the latter.
Irrelevant in my case because by following your link to a youtube video, I immediately knew that it wasn’t a game for me, regardless how good, but I would definitely appreciate to read a variety of opinions if someone was proposing a game I’m potentially interested in.
A lot of his criticisms are ridiculous. “Oh, all that happens in this game when you kill someone is that they respawn, I’m going back to ANY GAME EVER MADE”.
That you “had essentially no clue about what type of game” it is after reading my OP is also pretty ridiculous. I described it pretty thoroughly and linked to 8 separate youtube videos. He complained about things that were either false or would be a criticism of any video game. If you were more informed by his post than mine, then you’re definitely taking the wrong message away.
It sounds like you had no interest in a game like
“Planetside 2 is a free to play, massively multiplayer online first person shooter/tanker/pilot game with a sci-fi aesthetic It’s unrivalled in scale by anything else, with continents that can host 2000 players, and battles can involve hundreds of them on foot as various classes and hardsuits, and in all sorts of ground and air vehicles.”
In which case my OP should’ve made that plainly clear.
Wait, I thought this was the no games spoilers thread?
In fact, I had actually missed the " first person shooter/tanker/pilot game" part. That’s why I had no clue about what type of game you were talking about and found “you kill people and they respawn” quite useful.
Anyway, I stand by my opinion that I’d rather have negative as well as positive opinions about a game that I find potentially interesting ( indeed not the case with this one) when I’m invited to join. I’d rather thank people posting their negative opinion than think they’re rude. I want to be informed. If I wanted to just read how good such or such game/product is, I’d read adds rather than SDMB threads.
You have some severe reading comprehension issues if you feel that his post, which was full of factually incorrect statements and illogical criticisms that could apply to any game was more descriptive of my original post, which actually described the game quite accurately and linked to 8 different videos.
I read what you said about upgrades, about factions, etc…But having missed the critical part (it’s a FPS) I still had no clue. And regarding the videos, I watched the first one and knew I didn’t need to see any others, since that wasn’t a game for me. Also, a point that interested me in his post was his comments about sharpshooters. For a very short while (until I read his further comments) I thought that maybe I could play something like that (waiting and carefully shooting once in a while) since that’s about the only thing I conceivably might not completely suck at in a FPS.
Anyway, my post was more about the fact that I want critical/negative opinions to be posted (If people thing they’re unfair or wrong, they’ll certainly respond, which give all the more infos) when a game is promoted, and so think they shouldn’t be discouraged. A negative post isn’t rude, it’s informative for the rest of who don’t know the game.
I’ve started trying to show the scale and flow of the game by following battles around and recording them time lapse style. It’s pretty unique, I think perhaps there’s not really anything quite like it out there.
Here’s the first one, best to watch it in 1080p.
As someone who hasn’t played the game, I found it difficult to understand what was going on. So while that was nice, I felt it needed both narrative and exposition. Captions could potentially help with both. Have you considered using them? Make em unintrusive, but use them to (perhaps minimally) explain what’s going on in the part of the video that’s playing.
Nice time lapse video. Good choice of bases for it, too - a good combination of vantage points and low intensity but steady fighting . Lancers look pretty cool on the receiving end.
There’s not a lot to explain, so I’m not sure what to write. It’s just watching a friendly force attack two bases. Aircraft making bombing runs, tanks rolling around, infantry moving about. It was mostly night, and I had to hang back in order to not die, so you can’t see so much of the infantry battle until the end.

Thanks. I’ve been meaning to make more but I haven’t had time to play at primetime much anymore where the fights are biggest. Wish they’d merge Connery and Helios like they said they would.
It’s tricky to get close enough to the action without dying. I go infiltrator and spend most of my time cloaked, but it’s still very easy to be sniped. I had a couple more videos that are kind of ruined by big time jumps because I got sniped a lot. In this one there’s a big time jump from night to day - I was really hoping to capture the transition, but I was trying to get between bases during the sunrise and I died a few times on the way.
Looks like the Helios and Connery merger are happening soon at the same time as the next update - so maybe before the holiday weekend.
Hope they get it out before the weekend as the game updates have often needed the odd hotfix within a day or so. Apparently the new “lattice” system will be implemented for Indar continent only.
Hopefully this merge won’t cause server lagging, it was pretty bad over the weekend and some of the EU servers have been complaining of bad lag for a while.
It’s a double XP weekend, our server got merged to be a big one, and they just came out with a big patch. Game is going to be rocking. It’s a good time to give it a try with us.
Huge patch, in gameplay terms. The primary continent, Indar, now has a completely different flow and a lot of base changes, all focused on getting bigger battles going. This double XP weekend is probably going to crush the servers, but it’ll be awesome in the process so hey!
