I know it’s almost certainly not going to happen but…

I don’t understand the significance of the thread title. What else would he be out from? It’s not like he is a baseball player. (Unless his choice of head gear on leaving prison signifies a change of sport.)
Out of the closet. That’s what the term usually means nowadays.
Yeah, I have heard that term. But that doesn’t make much sense to me in this context. If it were about Kevin Spacey it would be funny, he’s been rumored to be gay for ages. Has Burress had those sorts of rumors surrounding him?
It’s a case of me just not getting it. I sometimes need a laugh track, smiley face and applause sign.
Getting back on topic - I just saw a report about him getting out of jail on a local channel. The Philadelphia news is actually reporting on the fact that he was wearing a Phillies hat as if it were a signal that he wants to come play for the Eagles. heh. We’ll have to check his socks. Maybe they were made in Jersey, that might be a sign he wants to stay with the Giants.
Plaxico Burress:
What a tremendous, gifted athlete!
(He was one of those guys that when he was on the field he changed the defense.)
What a knucklehead!
That being said, it is a miscarriage of justice that he spent 20 months in prison for accidentally shooting himself while Dick Cheney shot someone in the face, almost killed him, and wasn’t charged with anything.
I always thought that the proper punishment for Burress (for his own good) would be to incarcerate him in a professional football training facility, slap an ankle bracelet on him and not allow him to do anything except train, practice and play football.
Here is the Wiki part about his sentencing.
Burress was sentenced for having unregistered firearms and reckless endangerment for carrying a gun in his sweatpants. He’s lucky he did not shoot anyone else.
The local gossip at the time is that he went to four NYC hospitals trying to find one who would treat his injury without reporting it to the police, which is a federal offense, before finding a docotr that agreed to to it. By that time, the first hospital had contacted the authorities and set the ball in motion. If he had accepted treatment at the first one, he probably would have gotton a much lighter sentence.
As a fellow Giants fan, +1000.
However, it’s unlikely. Philly will probably snatch him up. Between he and Michael Vick, I think the Eagles are pretty much guaranteed the division at the least.
Plax trying to rehabilitate image:
as a jaded sports fan, I’m somewhat cynical but hopeful at the same time.
Go Plax!
I know it’s almost certainly not going to happen but…

I don’t know, he’s gotta go somewhere, right?
I don’t understand what you Giants fans want with Plax. WR is the last position the Giants need help in. They’re stacked.
I would be delighted if he tried out with the Texans. Several caveats: he’s now 34, and the Jamal Lewis experience helps show that jail is not the place for optimum nutrition or exercise technique. He may be a step slow at this point—not that his game really required break-neck speed—but NFL WRs can use all of it they can get. And once it’s gone, at that age, it stays gone. Still, I’d love to see if he could fit in with the Texans as a WR #2 and catch passes from a QB that didn’t overthrow him by 5 feet every other pass. Why not give him a one year deal, laden with incentives, and see if he bites? At least it’d light a fire under Walter and Jones…
Also—though it’s too late for him now, being a felon and all—but unlike NYC, here in Texas, we don’t mind people carrying Glocks, provided they do so in an adequate, concealed holster and are licensed to do so.
And he’s the new Brady Campaign spokesman FTW! They deserve each other…
There has been a lot of talk about him coming to Philly - not just from the media and fans, but from Plax also - but I’m not sure how he would fit. The Eagles have two #1 caliber WRs already in Jackson (a speedy downfield threat) and Maclin (a not quite as speedy but better overall receiver) who are both much younger. And they already have one of the best possession WRs in the league in Jason Avant. I just don’t see how he fits. But I guess if he has anything left at all he’d be worth a look, since he seems to want to go to Philly so desperately.
My neighbor and diehard Philly fan said that Philly would pick up Plax just so no other team could have him, since he was such a headache for them a few years back.
I’m not exactly sure what you mean but anyway . . .
Plax shot himself in the leg and did something like 20 months in prison. The politicians made an example of him. Plax, is big, black, an amazingly gifted athlete and a knucklehead. Not a good combination when every fat, stupid, raciest, athletically challenged loser wants to hate you.
Some moronic congresswoman in Arizona pulls a loaded gun with no safety and aims it at a reporter. She isn’t going to shoot herself, if there is an accident someone else suffers. Her defense is that her finger wasn’t on the trigger. Somehow, I don’t think that Plax’s finger was on the trigger.
We’ll see who does more time. She’s white, female, a bit hot and a politician. She’s also totally fucked-up in the head and a danger to society. Plax was a danger to NFL defenses. I will be totally amazed if she is even charged. Don’t give me any shit about how Plax’s gun was illegal. It’s illegal to point a firearm, much less a loaded firearm, at another person who isn’t endangering you.
Bumpity-bump, and Plaxico is now a Jer
When you’re a Jet
You’re a Jet all the way
When out of prison you get
To your last touchdown day.
