We haven’t had a Joss Whedon-related thread in some time, so I thought I’d start one. If this has been done, my apologies- I can’t do a Search yet.
Anyway, I’m wondering if all the bands that played at the Bronze were real bands (other than Dingoes Ate My Baby). I know some of them were- I remember seeing Aimee Mann in one episode, and in another, an alternative band whose name I can’t remember- Machu Picchu or Sacco Vanzetti or something .
So, what are some of the bands that appeared at the Bronze? Did Nerf Herder (who did the theme song) ever appear on the show?
I remember The Breeders and Michelle Branch. Nerf Herder did get a chance at some screen time finally in season 7, but Kennedy and Dawn decided their music was one of the signs of the ongoing apocalypse, so that was a less than ringing endorsement!
Cibo Matto, I believe. Pretty sure all the bands that played were “real bands”, although some were local outfits. There’s a list floating around on the net somewhere. I’ll see if I can dig it up.
I did some more research and discovered that when Dingoes Ate My Baby appeared, they were playing the music of Four Star Mary.
Regarding Aimee Mann’s quote, what were the circumstances? Had vampires just run amuck? I’m a relative newcomer to the Whedonverse, and don’t have the encyclopedic knowledge of some fans.
I sometimes confuse Aimee Mann with Johnette Napolitano, from Concrete Blonde. That would have been a good band to have at the Bronze! They could have played “Bloodletting (The Vampire Song)”!
IIRC, it was after some vampire chick Spike sired got into a brawl with Spike 'cause he didn’t want to play with her anymore. I believe the phrase “one bite stand” was used. Anyhow, they fought in the Bronze while Mann was performing, he staked her (the nameless vampire, not Mann) and her body fell off the balcony onto the dance floor before she poofed, which threw the band off their groove.
And the song they played was “Pavlov’s Bell”, which was a funny 'cause Spike was getting all grr from hearing some conditioned music which overcame his neutering chip.
