Posters in Buffy the Vampire Slayer

I’ve been binge watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer and I’ve noticed that apparently at least one set designer on the show has, like me, a fondness for jam bands. I’ve seen posters hanging in the background of numerous scenes for bands including Widespread Panic, Galactic, and The String Cheese Incident. The latter two bands were relatively new and not widely known at the time the show aired. My wife has gotten used to me suddenly pausing the show and yelling “Poster alert!” I haven’t found any mention of this on the internet but I doubt that I’m the first person to notice it.

ETA Argh, I meant to post this in Cafe Society but I guess it’s ok here too.

No problem, fixed on my first post review.

Later in the college seasons, when I saw the roommate’s poster of Celine Dion, I joked, “Well she’ll turn out to be evil.”

I often notice backgrounds and decor on sets on movies and shows. You’ll see some strange things.

I’ll watch for the posters for sure now. I won’t be able to stop myself. Thanks for my new eye worm.

And right after I posted this, we got a two-fer. The episode we watched last night has these two scenes. (If it’s not legible, the poster in the first scene is advertising String Cheese Incident’s album Carnival '99. It was quite prominent in the background during the entirety of this very important scene between Willow and Tara. The same poster has been shown several times hanging in Riley’s room.)

I’m watching for the first time. The only time I noticed the poster was the Celine Dion one that was mentioned. That was the last episode I watched. I guess I will be noticing them now.

In addition to the posters, a lot of the bands you saw playing at The Bronze were real bands in the LA scene.
