Playlist for Guitar Hero II Announced

I know there are plenty on this board who have sold their souls to rock 'n roll for Guitar Hero on the PS2; IGN has a list of the songs that will be on GH2 (Nov. 7 release). Red Octane’s site has a preorder page with music samples from some of the songs (interface is near the bottom of the page).

Playlist from IGN’s page:

Arterial Black - Drist
Beast and the Harlot - Avenged Sevenfold
Can’t You Hear Me Knocking? - The Rolling Stones
Crazy on You - Heart
Free Bird - Lynyrd Skynyrd
Heart-Shaped Box - Nirvana
Jessica - The Allman Brothers Band
John The Fisherman - Primus
Laid To Rest - Lamb of God
Madhouse - Anthrax
Message in a Bottle - The Police
Misirlou - Dick Dale
*Psychobilly Freakout * - The Reverend Horton Heat
Shout at the Devil - Mötley Crüe
Strutter - KISS
*Surrender * - Cheap Trick
Sweet Child O’ Mine - Guns N’ Roses
*Tattooed Love Boys * - The Pretenders
Them Bones - Alice in Chains
Tonight I’m Gonna Rock You Tonight - Spinal Tap
Trippin’ on a Hole in a Paper Heart - Stone Temple Pilots
War Pigs - Black Sabbath
Who Was in My Room Last Night? - The Butthole Surfers
You Really Got Me - The Kinks, as performed by Van Halen
YYZ - Rush

Some no-brainer songs in there along with some inspired choices (Spinal Tap – oh, yes!) – and some bands I’ve never heard of, just as in the original. This list will in no way make it any easier to convince Mrs. Urquhart that we need a PS2 simply for Guitar Hero (we play it at a friend’s house for six- and seven-hour stretches at a time, and we’d have absolutely no lives at all if we actually owned it ourselves).

Get ready to rock!

“Them Bones” is an interesting choice. Good song, but almost too short, really. “Man in the Box” or “It Ain’t Like That” would have been better.

I’m anxious to hear how close they can get to Layne’s vocals, too, because his is a difficult voice to mimic.

And I’m still disappointed by the lack of any Metallica. “Master of Puppets” or “One” would be perfect.

That’s not the complete playlist - that’s just what’s been announced so far. I believe there are going to be 55 songs, which means probably 40 licensed songs and 15 ‘bonus’ songs. The list above is only a little more than half of what you can expect from ‘name’ bands.

This game is going to rock.

Although, my fingers hurt just thinking about Miserlou.

Fingers crossed for more Zombie. Thunderkiss '65 is my everest. I still haven’t managed to get past easy for it on GH1, but I am still trying!

Hmm… so if that’s only half, there’s still a chance for some Metallica. It’ll probably be something like “Enter Sandman” though.

I debated getting a PS2 for the first game. I have a feeling it won’t be much of a debate this time, since hopefully PS2 prices will come down with the PS3 launch.

Sweet, I know what I’ll be getting when it comes out, I hope that I can get one with a guitar too so Iris can play at the same time. I’m hoping they’ve got some good Maiden on there as well. \m/

Is there anything similar that works on a PC?

google “frets on fire” and “freetar hero”.

I’ve played both with the GH guitar (with the help of a usb adapter) and they’re nowhere near as fun or polished as the real thing. They’re still pretty fun.

It seems worth reviving this thread to mention that the full official list and breakdown was released yesterday here.

I am almost ashamed – almost, I said – to admit that my wife and I are planning a get-together with a friend on November 7th so we can purchase the new game and rock together with the new dual player mode.

At some point, I am going to have to experience this. I am not a gamer - but I am a guitarist. I would be very interested to understand what non-git-players enjoy about this game - and whether actual guitar players can enjoy it…

Do you think Tiger Woods plays video golf? I am not trying to be cute here - I am genuinely asking. If a person has adequate-to-expert skills in the real deal, is a video game version appealing to them?

I’m not a musician by any stretch, but I think if you search some of the other threads on Guitar Hero, you’ll find that there are several accomplished guitar players that enjoy the game, although apparently being a real guitar player doesn’t necessarily make the game easy.
