A few weeks ago I accidently caught a Tom Selleck movie on TV. It was Stone Cold and the credits revealed that the story was based on Robert B Parker’s Jesse Stone series and the music was by Jeff Beal, who has only scored one decent movie, Ed Harris’s Pollock, but has done a million TV shows including most of Monk and Ugly Betty.
Selleck is EP and obviously has bought the rights as a vehicle for himself and it was a wise choice. The feature was a nicely understated, almost languid detective piece set in a small town in New England. It featured some lovely dialogue, a cast of believable characters and lovely cinematography. Oh and Beal’s score of course.
Tonight the second telemovie which is a prequel was on TV and was equally enjoyable. There are 3 other Stone books by Parker and all have been turned inti telemovies. I hope to see them soon.
As a viewing experience these telemovies were better than the majority of cinema releases.
Anyone else have any secret surprise quality entertainment for us?
