This is kind of a long post but bear with me because I’m terrified.
I’m a 23-year-old female who has never had sex but regularly masturbates. I was diagnosed with atypical PCOS (I was skinny and menstruated too often, instead of overweight and menstruated too little) at age 13 and endometriosis at age 15, which I am on continuous OCPs to manage. I have had problems with frequent breakthrough bleeding for the past 6 or so years.
I figure I should start off with a bit of history:
In mid 2012 I purchased a speculum (bad idea, I know) because I was curious. Upon examining myself I found a big red bulbous thing covering part of my cervix. As I removed the speculum in an attempt to readjust it to get a better look, I made the mistake of closing it while it was still inside of me, which must have “popped” whatever bulbous thing was on my cervix, because I felt a very intense cramp-like pain and then a river of blood came out with the speculum.
I did not have breakthrough bleeding at the time and the blood was too copious to be normal breakthrough bleeding. It stopped almost immediately, but enough came out in the big “gush” to soak my bedsheets nicely.
I had an appointment with my gynecologist several months later (couldn’t get anything sooner) and she said that my cervix looked normal. I didn’t tell her that I had purchased a speculum so I didn’t tell her what I had seen on my cervix that night. I had my first pap smear that day, which came back normal. Even though I’ve never had sex, my gyno had scared me by telling me that they have to check virgins for cellular changes in the cervix because some forms of cervical cancer aren’t caused by HPV.
I’ve had one more exam and pap smear since the first one (first one was June of 2012, my most recent one was June of 2013), both of which were normal.
I’ve always had a tendency to bleed a bit with masturbation, but it’s always been a very small amount, which I’ve heard can be normal for someone with endometriosis.
HOWEVER, not 30 minutes ago I was masturbating rather vigorously (sorry for the TMI but I was really jamming it in there) and suddenly realized that the incredible wetness between my legs was not vaginal lubrication, but blood - lots of it. Good thing I had put a puppy training pad underneath me beforehand, which I usually do due to my propensity to bleed a bit, because before I was even aware, the blood had soaked into the pad and was already creeping up my butt and onto my back.
Sorry to post gory pictures, but here’s my blood-covered hand after the incident to give you an idea of the amount of blood:

And here’s the puppy pad:
As it had the first time, the bleeding stopped almost immediately, but I had bled an alarming amount in the short amount of time. Also, as with the first time, I was on a rare respite from breakthrough bleeding and, until the river of blood that rivals the elevator scene in The Shining occurred, I simply had a nice whitish/clearish discharge.
Now I’m back to being freaked out that I have cervical cancer or something else that’s going to kill me. On Monday I’m going to call the doctors office and schedule an appointment with my gyno for the nearest available date, but until then I’m going to be shitting bricks.
Until then, does anyone have any ideas of what this could be??? Do you think it’s related to the angry-red bulbous thingy on my cervix from last year? Do you think it could be cancer and the pap smears just aren’t detecting it? I’ve looked at pictures of cervical ectropions, cervical polyps, endometrial polyps that extend into the cervix, the list goes on, and it would be great if it were one of those because they’re harmless and then I’d have an answer, but I have a tendency to always think of the worst case scenario.
Please help me!
