Hey, I just noticed I’ve passed 2500 posts. Cool.
Sorry, but what’s the use of being dictator if you can’t bump your own thread with a meaningless observation about your own post count?

Hey, congratulations!
And I better get home quickly after work, I forgot to turn off my VCR. Man, that sounds weird.
And not to pat myself on the back or anything, but I still get a kick out of my Die Hard joke.
As well you should, my man. As well you should!
Oh, forgot to mention this. I was talking to some friends this weekend about “24.” Or rather, I was not talking to some friends about “24.” They find it truly hilarious that I’m doing this. They laughed and laughed… and then quickly stopped laughing when I told them that they know that when I sit down to watch “24” and give them a call, they’re going to show up in a heartbeat.
Billy, on Friday I couldn’t stop talking like Ted Knight. I have no idea why. Wait - actually I do. I walked past the Border’s bookshop, and there were tons of various Bobby Knight books in the window (me living in Indianapolis and all). Then I thought it would have been really funny if Bob Knight had been cast in Caddyshack, instead of Ted Knight. But only if Bob Knight did Ted Knight impersonations the entire time.
So all of Friday, I would cuss and yell about Fresca and handicaps. I was a delight.
Smales: I guess you don’t. I guess you don’t.
Czervik: Who’d wanna belong to this snob-atorium anyway?
Smales: Sah-sah-sah-sah…
RIP Ted Knight, the king of the slow burn.
Interesting new issue, clubbers:
We had some severe weather move through my corner of the continuum last night, some of it between 9 and 10 p.m. My cable company (as I believe all are now required to) displays weather alerts on screen, interrupting at times with the national weather service autom(ated warning)aton.
So, what I’ve got here is this. I might have up to an hour’s worth of tape with a banner across the bottom, possibly interrupted at times with “The Na Tion Al Wea Ther Ser Vice Has Iss Ued A Sev Ere Ya Da Ya Da.” I might not. Don’t know, can’t check.
Should I just go ahead and plan to re-tape this week’s episode?
Separate issue:
Does anybody have word on when, exactly, the last episode is going to air? I need to decide if I’m gonna stay home from work that day or postpone watching the tapes until the following weekend.
The last episode of 24 will air Tuesday, May 21, at 9pm eastern time.
I believe that the last episode will be on Tuesday the 21st, from 9-10 PM Pacific.
It’s gonna take you at least 18 hours to watch the whole thing, so you’d probably need 2 days off work. Or wait till the weekend.
Actually, Natural, since I’ll be starting at midnight, I’ll only need to take the one day off, but I get your point.
Thanks to both for the info, and welcome to our humble little thread.
Yo, Munch, will you be through with classes by then, or what?
Well, okay. I’m guessing Munch is studying for finals or something. FWIW, here’s the rundown on what my highness has decided. I’ll be taping the final episode of 24 on Tuesday, 5/21. As it happens, I’ll also be picking up the new Limited Edition release of Memento that day, but that’s another thread.
At midnight, Friday, May 24, I’ll start watching the tapes. The plan is still to fast forward through commercials so as to take advantage of some periodic breaks. My understanding is that I will occasionally miss little vignettes of activity going on during the commercials. I’ll risk it. My VCR has a button that lets me skip 30 seconds at a time, so maybe I won’t even miss all that much. After watching the first tape, I’ll start a thread to pick up where this one leaves off. That would be somewhere in the 4:30-5:00 a.m. time frame if I’m doing my math right. At 6:00 a.m., tape 2 starts. And so on.
Be it hereby known that as a final act of my dictatorial position, I declare that all who wish to become members of the 24 Club are welcome to submit their application by watching their own tapes of 24 as described above on the date in question. Yes, even if you’ve already seen them. The thing is to watch them all at once, and participate in the discussion which is thus generated. See, we’ve never been exclusive.
On behalf of myself and 24 Club El Grande Frommage, Munch, the following are declared to be Founding Members: Larry Mudd (who though not having participated in the thread claimed to be in on things from the beginning) and Montfort (who has gone halfway with us and deserves the title … anything would be a step from from F.N.G., no?).
Billy Barroo qualifies for honorary membership due to his continued support of and interest in this thread, despite not actually participating in the project. Now’s your chance to upgrade, Billy!
Ukulele Ike was awarded honorary membership on 3/30/2002 along with the 24 Club Oak Leaf Cluster for Conspicuous Gallantry. All hail.
Montfort, if you’re still out there in hiding, I guess it’s getting to be time for us to decide how we want to handle getting tapes from me to you. Drop me an e-mail.
Hey hey! I was out of the office the last two days, and therefore couldn’t pop in. But I’m here now. Everyone can relax.
I finished with finals last week, and have been cool as a cucumber for the last 7 days. Wonderfulness galore to turn that last paper in, I tell ya.
May 24, eh? I suppose that’s doable. I think I have a picnic to go to that Sunday, but I’ll survive. Yes I will. I will indeed.
Quick, Billy. Do your best Ted Knight.
You’ll get nothing and like it! <beat> Awww, all right.
Smales: Dooo youuu know what gophers can dooo to a golf course? Yooou… you’d better get rid of those gophers. Or I’ll be looking for a new groundskeeper. Is that clear?
I’ve already done it once last month (rewatched my tapes back to back). It was pretty cool then. I imagine it would be tons o’ fun when you’re seeing it all for the first time.
As far as the 24 Club Independence Day celebration: I’ll do whatever you decree, Commandant KTK.
Good news: a banquet is served 2100-2200. Vodka and spinach pie. And of course, as always…
A Nice Fresh Lead Salad! Blam! Blam! Blam!
Okay, kiddies. Today’s the day we wrap it up.
This project sure has been an interesting exercise for me, and I can’t tell you all how amused I have been that anyone has humored me in it, let alone actually playing along.
I’m going to start up the “24: Finale (SPOILERS!)” thread, so as there’s no subject line spoilers tomorrow/tonight.
But Knead, you da man for starting up this thread. And to think it’s just a shadow of its former self, as there’s 4 months of posts missing, of us blathering on and on about nothing in particulars.
I love blathering.
Question is, what are we gonna blather about come next week?
Well, one possibility is to not discuss “24” at all, but blather on about the fact that we indeed did watch it, but not get into any specifics.
KTK: “Yup, I watched 24 this weekend. It was pretty long. I’d estimate it was about 24 hours long.”
Munch: “Yeah, I suppose that’s about right. My VCR worked like a charm, except about halfway through (I’d guess it was about 12 hours through), my tape recorded a little funny, and squealed for about 1/2 hour. Didn’t bother me much, in fact it kept me awake.”
Billy: “I’m a terrible slouch.”
Munch: “Oh, I wouldn’t be so hard on yourself, Billy - I’m sure you’re a tremendous slouch.”
KTK: “Oh, Billy, Billy, Billy…”
See? We can blather on like normal!
I’m feeling much better now!
(Of course, some of that is because I went out at lunch and bought the new Limited Edition DVD of Memento, which includes a new cut of the film in chronological order and am very much looking forward to watching it!)
It came out!? I have to go to Best Buy immediately.
Woo hoo!
Do I get some sort of award for “starting up the longest thread with no intention of reading”? My 24 - Season Finale thread is already at 12 replies, and I didn’t even read my own OP.
God damn, Munch, I’m not made out of those awards, you know.
I’m just jerkin’ yer chain, buddy. One’s on its way to you now.
Sweet. Getting awards from Knead is like getting fried chicken from the Colonel’s kitchen.
So, Saturday approaches, and Munch here sent out a few invitations to some friends who expressed interest in watching ‘24’. So far, two are coming. But the best part is that one of them is narcoleptic. I find that immensely funny (not the fact that she has narcolepsy - that’s sad - but that she wants to watch a show about a guy who isn’t allowed to sleep).
Which brings up next season. I think they should have the same premise (I know, they’re not going to), but surrounding someone else entirely. And I would like to suggest that that person be narcoleptic:
“Crap! Gotta find my family! Gotta save the president! Gotta take a little nappie…zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…Crap!”
