Alright kiddies, are we gonna saddle this horse up again or what?
Damn straight we are.
Can I join? I’ve only seen the first four episodes of the first season, but I can’t wait…
It’s down to a few days…
yes, but every second counts!
Anyone want to try their hand at prediction? Arrange these events in order of appearance on the first episode(s):
Kimberly does something stupid.
Jack does something unexpected.
Jack does something violent.
President Palmer trusts someone he shouldn’t.
Someone in Palmer’s staff gives the evil eye to someone else on Palmer’s staff.
Someone innocent gets killed.
Tony attempts to dislocate his jaw while staring at a co-worker.
Jack tells someone he needs to speak with the president.
Boo. Ya!
I’ve been testing my VCR for the last week trying to get it just right. The goal this year is to not make Knead send me tapes because I’m a moron.
But in other news, what’s going on, KneadToKnow?!? Haven’t seen you in a while. The man still keeping you down at the library?
Have you seen the first episode?! Spoiler boxes!
Does the 24 club blackout apply to episodes only, or even preview stuff like, say, this week’s TV Guide?
Everything. You should even change the channel when you see a commercial coming up. Ideally, you shouldn’t even be watching FOX until Memorial Day. I think even seeing The Lost Boys or Flatliners would be a bad idea.
Will you be doing your public service threads, Knead? Those are always a hoot. I feel kinda bad having such a good time in them without you.
For reference, the season premier is on Fox, tuesday October 28, 2003 at 9:00 PM eastern (8:00 PM for you central timezone weirdo bastards.)
I will be setting a TiVo season pass for it. (Highest priority, of course. I don’t want my TiVo forsaking 24 so it can record yet another episode of Modern Marvels.)
I tried to set my Tivo season pass last night and the guide data wasn’t there yet. Bastards.
Definitely looking forward to it, though. 24 is lacking in certain ways, but damn if it isn’t entertaining.
Jammer
Yay 24. I’ve been looking forward to October for a while- postseason baseball and the season premiere of 24. I probably should just get a new VCR this year, but then again, it’s somehow fitting that the taping of 24 is just as adventurous and gut-wrenching as the show itself.
Generally, the rules in the “official” KneadToKnow threads have been: no discussion of anything that hasn’t broadcast to the East Coast of the US yet without a spoiler box (so us West Coasters should avoid the threads starting around 6pm our time). Anything in commercials, previews*, TV Guide articles, whatever should be in spoiler boxes. Spoiler boxes can be made by using the following tags:
They all die at the end, except for Kim, who falls in love with me and moves in with me.
This will yield:
They all die at the end, except for Kim, who falls in love with me and moves in with me.
*-Yes, some of us actually change the channel in the time between the final tick of the current episode and the preview for next week’s.
Looking at this post, can I be named the Official Geek of the 24 Club?
Well, well. Look at all the new faces 'round the campfire. And the usual suspects as well. Hot diggity.
Troy has pretty well laid out the particulars of conduct within the threads, but for anyone who may still be wondering what all this is about, here’s the broad strokes:
To qualify for full membership in the 24 Club, you must [ul][li]tape (or otherwise record) each episode of 24, season 3, to watch them all in a 24-hour* marathon at the end of the season, and (the hard part)[*]remain within the best of your ability a complete season 3 virgin until the marathon: no episodes, no commercials, no reading threads, no reading web sites, nothing.[/ul] In the past, last-minute memberships have been offered to those who simply participated in the marathon. Will they be made available again this year? Suspense is a bitch, ain’t it?[/li]
The 24 Club has one season-long public service project. Each week an episode airs, I will start a discussion thread. The purpose of this thread is two-fold. One, it provides a central place for all discussion of that weeks episode, allowing interested parties to quickly find each other, congregate, and (if Biggirl isn’t just yanking my chain) enjoy the occasional hoot. Second, having a thread in place each week will (hopefully) prevent ill-advised persons from starting threads with titles such as (to steal some ideas from past seasons) “Holy Crap! Nina’s the mole!!!” or “I can’t believe it! Scrawny, whiny blonde number 2 is in on it!!” Official 24 Club threads are easily recognizable; their titles are of the format
"24" season 3, episode 1, 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. (SPOILERS)
What are you gonna do, I’m a librarian for crying out loud.
It should go without saying that 24 Club members are to consider these threads forbidden places of the highest order. But it won’t.
As my good buddy Munch alluded to above, The Man Is Keeping Me Down at work, so I am not free to start these threads until I get home from work on Monday nights, usually between 9:00 and 9:30. Please do not consider a spoiler thread overdue unless it has not appeared by 7:00 or 8:00 eastern time on Tuesday.
Cool? Cool.
- It’s not really a 24 hour marathon. I don’t expect anyone to sit through commercials. Last year, the marathon at Chez Knead ended about 3:30 a.m.
And of course there are scores, if not hundreds of Dopers like me who don’t post much, but avidly read every word of every post of every 24 thread.
I receive almost as much pleasure from the reading as I do the actual show itself. The speculation is half the fun. It’s one reason why I could never be a member of the 24 Club. I admire your willpower, but do not covet it. I’m into more immediate gratification.
You provide a great public service. I look for your 24 threads each week KneadToKnow. Thanks.
Yes, some of us actually change the channel in the time between the final tick of the current episode and the preview for next week’s.
Thanks for pointing that out. I did watch the show every week, but I turned it off as soon as the clock came up, and I (and several others) asked several times in the threads to use the spoiler boxes for the “next week on 24…” part.
And those of us who watch weekly and use the “24, season 3, XX:XX-XX:XX (Spoilers)” threads very much appreciate the thread starter. And if we find another thread with 24 spoilers out there, we’ll come in and give a forewarning not to hit that thread.
I’m confused.
The 24 club doesn’t view any of the episodes, view any commercials or read any threads that give away any plot points? Until the entire season has been aired?
Then what the hell is there to discuss? Last year’s stuff?
We discuss everything that isn’t “24”, of course! Sometimes we’ll talk about the perils and dangers of improper VCR maintenance, the ever-looming threat of power outages, the savior that is the F/X rebroadcast (which I now get, by the way), and we’ll occassionally make fun of the fact that it’s taking forever for Munch to complete his degree. And if you ask real nice, you might get Unca Knead to regale us with stories of a free master’s degree.
