Please DISCUSS "24" with me

Well, here it is, at long last.

Munch, get out. You’re not allowed in here until tomorrow at the soonest.

For anyone who doesn’t know what this is all about, it all started with a thread called Please don’t discuss “24” with me, which I would happily provide a link to, but at this hour the board apparently is too sleepy.

I’m done watching tape one, 12:00 a.m. - 6:00 a.m.

Notes so far:

I think Jamie/Janie/whatever (with the really bad underbite) is the one who’s working on the inside.

I knew “Alan”/“Allen”/whatever was up to something.

So far, so good.

More after a nap and six more episodes.

Please don’t discuss “24” with me link.

A nap? A nap?!? Hey, I didn’t see Jack Bauer taking any naps! I mean, if you’re gonna do this “tape the whole series and then watch it” thing, I think you should have to do it right! Go get some No-Doze!

Hey Knead, in case you go back to read the old ‘24’ threads, Jamie is oft referred to as “The Mandible” and Tony as “Soulpatch.” Back in the early days (hours?) of the show it was hard to remember all those characters names

Wow…watching all those shows in a row…this really WILL be the longest day of your life

I couldn’t believe the scene where Jack Bauer found out that Darth Vader was HIS FATHER!

Seriously, though - just wait, KneadtoKnow … the best stuff is all ahead of you.

Best laid plans of mice and men and all that. My nap ran a little overlong, so now I’m an hour or so behind, but tape two, 6:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., is now done.

Wow.

Glad to see I was right about The Mandible.

Well, no break if I’m to get anything like back on schedule, so it’s time to go queue up tape three.

This is really rather fun, I have to confess.

Oh, and thanks for the link Ice Wolf!

Uhoh…by this time, Knead will be watching the crappy soap-opera hours of “24” with every hackneyed daytime serial cliche thrown into one 24-hr period. Don’t worry, Knead, it gets better…much much much better!

If you haven’t got past it yet, I suggest stopping at episode… 13… I think. You’ll know it when you see it. In my opinion, the show went downhill from there.

Except, of course, that you won’t stop. I knew at the time, and I couldn’t help watching all the rest.

Tape three joins its predecessors, and I’m really running behind the planned schedule now, but I’ll still finish on time.

Re: soap-opera hours: As soon as I saw the vacant look in Teri/Terry’s eyes, I remembered the now-deleted post from the “don’t discuss” thread which started off, “AMNESIA!?!?!?!?!?” or something to that effect. I have faith that we’ll overcome these little difficulties.

I notice they found a way to get young Kimberly’s boobs out there jiggling again after that very unbecoming scrub outfit they had her in for a few hours.

I’m still not convinced that Mrs. Senator isn’t involved in all of this in some way yet to be revealed.

Plot hole I’ve noted: did you notice that after it got swapped out, no one cared what happened to the original key card? Didn’t it have evidence on it?

Yeah, the show took a real blow when they had Kim change out of that cute little vest.

And don’t worry, if your past the awful amnesia episode, the worst is behind you. It gets back on track nicely, and the ending will blow you away!

Just don’t forget about the key card. It will help make sense of everything when you get to the end.

The action picks up again once it gets dark again.

Make that “if you**'re** past…”

Just wait till you get to the end and Jack wakes up in bed next to Suzanne Pleshette, and Patrick Duffy’s in the shower and it turns out the whole day was a dream…oops, did I give away too much?

Nah, the end is MUCH better than that. The last three or four hours race by.

Jeez, I’m gonna have to stay up till midnight so I can see Knead’s final reaction. This sucks! Hit Fast Forward already!

Holy fleurking schnitt.

And since
[ol]
[li]I didn’t say “SPOILERS” in the thread title like I meant to, [/li][li]I’m that peculiar mix of exhausted and wired that comes from drinking too much Bojangle’s sweet tea to stay awake, and[/li][li]I need to digest it all a little,[/ol][/li]that’s all I have to say about it for tonight.

General discussion up to but not including finale spoilers can continue here to everyone’s hearts’ content, but I think discussion of the season finale that includes spoilers should go in Munch’s thread, The 24 Season Finale (SPOILERS!).

Especially since he beat me too it.

And Max, I had no idea you were such a fan. :o

Last but not least, I’d like to say a very special thanks to Mrs. ToKnow, a.k.a. neuseance, for humoring me in this project, staying up with me to watch the tapes, helping to keep me awake so that I could watch the tapes, and enjoying the show as much as I did.

Saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa-lute!

Welcome to the ranks of this nation’s fortunate-to-have-watched-24. Now I have to wonder was it better to watch them all at once and experience it as a solitary viewer, or to watch it every week and enjoy the speculating with others on Wednesday.

Howdy!

Question #1: Do you think Jack Bauer still has some dude’s finger in his pocket?

Question #2: Do you think Kim Bauer is single?

Question #3: Do you think Munch here ever wants to watch television again?

It’s good to see that someone else couldn’t quite take a short nappy after 5:00-6:00. I also took about a 3 hour nap, and it took until 1:00-2:00 to catch up. The snooze button was just too convenient (as was resetting the alarm for an extra hour)…

I didn’t mind the soap operaey parts, because they went by quickly - I think that watching all the episodes together downplayed that aspect. I can imagine that waiting a week at a time and be given amnesia, a long-lost almost lover, and an endless string of assassination attempts could be a bit hard to swallow.

**Things I predicted: **
Alan being bad.
Jack being good.
Mrs. Palmer being a bitch.

Things I didn’t so much predict as I got completely wrong:
Soulpatch being good.
Mandible being bad. (Was she really? I mean, she was murdered, and thinking back into the fog of Saturday, I can’t quite remember what she had done that was bad. Nina killed her, and could have planted the money transfer to incriminate her. I dunno. Little help?)
Everything else.

Okay, I’ve given this some time to digest, now, and I think I’ve got a handle on the whole thing.

To answer your question, Max, I don’t think I can say one way or the other which way was better. The way I did it had certain advantages, I think. For one, I really felt like I got to ride a giant-size roller-coaster of a movie. Because of the weekly-TV-show structure, there was never a slow spot that lasted more than say 15 minutes during the entire show, and that made it very easy to stay attuned to the characters and the plot.

On the other hand, it also made some of the goofs a lot easier to see. Little suspend-your-disbelief moments that sometimes made suspension of disbelief a really active proposition. Like the use of a cell phone in an underground bunker? Yeah, I’m too sure.

But overall, I think it was fun experience and I’m glad I did it. It really made the show a special event for me and even though I don’t think I’ll do it exactly that way again, it sure was fun.

Hogwash! You’re doing it again next year for season 2. Or else.

Oops. Wrong button.

I think season two should pick up right where season one left off, and consist of nothing but a 4-way split screen of everybody sleeping.

And it should be called “25”.
