I believe that the crime is buying a gun while marking on paperwork that you are not a user of illegal drugs when in reality you are. So, if she owns guns she bought a while ago and then later took up smoking weed, then that law isn’t broken. For example, I own a handgun that I bought years ago. I’ve never smoked weed (and never plan to) but if I started, you couldn’t nail me on that crime because I wasn’t a user when I bought it. My understanding is that the crime is for making a false statement at the purchase, not simply owning a gun while being an illegal drug user.
Now, people have been charged for simply owning a gun while also being a user, but those laws have been struck down in court more than once.
