Please help me compile a list of essential youtube videos

We recently got HughesNet high speed internet at home so now my wife can watch youtube. She has never really seen any youtube videos and doesn’t get what all the fuss is about. I have been watching youtube for years at work so I think I have seen a lot of the same videos as everyone else. But now I can’t think of them.

So what videos can you think of that it seems like everyone has seen? I’m really looking for the more enduring ones like **Charlie Bit Me **and **Mother’s Day **instead of the viral ones that fade away after a week.

Thanks in advance

Not all on You Tube, but many: You should have seen this

Groovy Dancing Girl
Blood!

Both personal favorites.

You are about to start drinking from a firehose, you know.

Oh lessee…all of the various “Downfall” mashups (there’s a thread on them right now); “Leroy Jenkins” (only funny if you’re into videogames), talking cats, cats on a treadmill, farting preacher…go wild.

Shocked. It even has meatspin, two girls, goatse. And I’m not sure if I want to know what lemon party is.

Pickle Surprise

Yacht Rock (11 episodes … start with #1)

You do not want to know.

Kiwi

The Kitty Cat Dance is always a crowd pleaser.

Don’t know if it’s your cup of tea, but I could watch this clip of a kid trying to launch a bottle rocket out of his butt on a continuous loop, 24 hours a day.

There’s always Peanut Butter & Jelly Time!!

And Numa Numa, Dramatic Gopher,
Baby Panda Surprises Mom, Star Wars Kid, What What (In The Butt), Afro Ninja, Leave Britney Alone!, The Final Countdown, and of course the greatest YouTube video ever.

Or just enter search terms like “helicopter crash” for hours of fun!

If you’re after more civilised fare, there’s also Gallagher, a man who hits fruit with sledgehammers.

Fred and Sharon.

It’s hard to watch, and hard to stop watching.

You have to have seen “Kittens Inspired by Kittens”, right?

good lord

Keep 'em coming guys. These are great!

I want pie! I want beef jerkey!

How about an-i-mation?

Iggins, that list is exactly what I was looking for. Jake E Lee shredsis my new favorite

Missing from the list Iggins linked to: Rack 'em Willie

You need a couple more cat videos, they are an important part of our culture.

Cat Fight!
Ok, it’s not so much a fight as one cat getting demolished by another cat, but I like it anyway.

Ninja Cat

Almost forgot Pinky The Cat.

I wonder what happened to him? My guess is he’s guarding a junkyard somewhere.

Everyday Normal Guy. Still cracks me up after a year.

That’s fun.

“I’m her moooooooooooom”

“No she’s noooooooooot!”

On a somewhat different note, how about a time-lapse film of a year at McMurdo Station, in Antarctica?

You can get great vintage short films, with a little searching. Here is the first film Mel Brooks ever made, “The Critic”.

There’s a wonderful YouTube channel, The YouTube Screening Room. This channel has some excellent short films and documentaries. Among my favorites are “Harvey Krumpet”, the funny, sympathetic, and imaginative story of a very unlucky Polish immigrant to Australia; “Our Time Is Up,” which is hilarious (I won’t spoil it for you); and “Second Guessing Grandma,” a cute and, ultimately, heart-warming film in which a young man comes out to his old-fashioned grandmother.

YouTube is great for finding truly arresting material that often gets overlooked by much of the mainstream press. Check out this clip of Bernie Madoff, at a round table discussion in October, 2007. And here’s Bernie Boy again, at the same roundtable discussion, making jokes about how close he is to the SEC regulators.
