Please help me figure out which is the better price

I’m a little embarrassed because it seems I should be able to figure this out on my own, but I guess I’m arithmetically-challenged today:

I want to buy a nootropic supplement called pramiracetam. It’s finally available on eBay, and I’m trying to pick the best deal.

I can get a 45-count bottle of 300-milligram capsules for $37.

Or, I can get a jar of loose powder containing 50 grams for $63.

I’m not worried about the cost of the gelcaps I would have to buy to fill them with the powder.

Who can tell me which works out cheaper? Thanks!

300mg x 45 = 13,500mg = 13.5g
$ 37 / 13.5 = $2.74 per g

$63 / 50 = $1.26 per g

Ooooh, nine minutes! You rock, Mangetout! Thanks!

How is your plastic project coming along?

Not bad… I started the main build, but it’s going a bit slower than I hoped. I’ll get there…

Someone who’s taking nootropic drugs ought to have been able to figure this one out. :stuck_out_tongue:

Since the GQ has been answered, consider the dosage method. It may be harder to accurately measure out the non-capsulized powder into the desired dosage. So the capsules may be a “better deal” in that they’re presumably more accurate and certainly easier.

Should’ve just bought one at random, then if afterwards you either kick or congratulate yourself, you’d have known it works, too… :stuck_out_tongue:

Good point. I suppose I’d have to figure out the volume of whatever size gelcap I buy, then divide the volume of the jar of powder by the individual capsule volume to get an approximate dosage-per-capsule. Yikes!

Since I know already that I can’t afford to take the optimal dosage of these kinds of expensive supplements, my usual strategy is to take a suboptimal dose, like for instance filling one capsule, and hope for the best. :slight_smile:

Well, I’m not taking them yet, silly! Actually, I have been taking piracetam; but pramiracetam is 15 times more potent. Clearly I need it, heh heh.

Just be careful of the side effects.
