Please help me find a '50's-era stuffed dog

My brother-in-law is looking for a birthday present for his ladylove. She has talked in the past of a beloved stuffed dog she had as a kid, and he would love to find one like it to give to her. He doesn’t do the Internet so he asked for my help, but I don’t know where to even start. Any ideas would be appreciated. I don’t think cost is an object, within reason for a normal working guy, that is. Here are the major clues he gave me.

She was born in 1955. I don’t know what age she was when she had the dog.

Stuffed dog
Cocker spaniel
Tan-colored with
Copper-colored ears
Moving eyes
About a foot long
Had either a vinyl or plastic face, or just a vinyl or plastic nose, he wasn’t sure.

Any tips on where to begin looking for such a thing? I know that ebay is an obvious answer but he hates ebay, so that would be a last choice. If this dog had a name other than the name she gave it (Lassie) that might help if I have to go to ebay.

Thank you for reading!

I know, I know, no eBay, but I find myself wondering if she had herself a Steiff. This is going to be a tough animal to hunt down, I think. Is there any way he can get more information about it? There are so many stuffed cocker spaniels from that era, it’s a little overwhelming if he doesn’t have an actual picture of it.

But I hope you and/or he finds it!

Aw, that’s adorable! ebay’s not out of the question. It’ll depend. I’ll forward that page to him. He might want to come out and ask her, but he wanted to surprise her, so it’s tricky. Maybe he can finagle looking at childhood photos where she’s holding it. Thank you for your reply!

Oh wow, since you posted about a “Steiff” I searched for that and found a good one! This cutie pie here. He doesn’t have a plastic/vinyl face or nose though, but damn he’s cute. I’m going to send this one to my bro-in-law. Thanks for the “Steiff” clue.
