I caught a bit of this old B+W film on a religious TV channel, late one night. The story is about a child, abandoned as an infant, and left at the doors of a monastery. The monks raise the child, and the boy becomes a typical young child-full of mischief. Anyway, one day the boy receives a vision of Christ-the sculpture of Christ comes alive, and the boy speaks with him…and steals bread and wine from the kitchem for Christ. Then Christ asks the boy if these is anything he wants…the boy says that he wants to see his mother. Christ agrees, but tells the boy that to do this , he must “fall asleep” (die). The boy agrees, and falls asleep in Christ’s arms. The monks witness this, and memorialize the boy.
It was quite a touching film…does anyone know when and who made it?
I had to read that in high school Spanish. We actually liked it until El Senor said “Duerme, pues, Marcelino” and realized the kid had died. Bummer.
