What song is this? It’s a frivolous question, I know—but it’s driving me crazy. :smack:
Uh…sorry—it doesn’t work. On preview the link went straight to the uploaded file and the song played. After I hit the ‘post’ button, it didn’t work. It just goes to the server’s front page. I don’t know how to fix it, sorry. Just ignore me, as I’m quite clearly wasting everybody’s time.

This seems to work. I tested it on another message board. You don’t have to download it, just press the green arrow when the page finishes loading.
That link goes to some goddamn virus-loading page. Freaking hell.
No, I think those are just pop-up ads. My antivirus isn’t raising any red flags.
Gah!
I figured we needed a second opinion, so I took the plunge.
DO NOT CLICK ON THAT LINK!
I don’t know about viruses but it leads to a host a nasty pop-ups and malicious browser programs.
Washoe, please try to find some nicer links.
Ok, never mind—now it’s starting to go berserk on me too. Don’t click on the link. I was trying to find a server that would host audio files in the same way that YouTube and PhotoBucket host video and .jpeg files. It thought it was legit, sorry. I’ll find another way to do it. I thought of just uploading the file to YouSendIt, but I was trying to make it easy so that you could just click a link and hear the song. I thought people would be more likely to help me if I made it as simple as possible. Tomorrow I’ll find another solution or use YouSendIt.
Moderator intervenes: I’ve disabled both links, just in case. I haven’t tried either of them. If one of them is, indeed, OK, let me know via email (or REPORT) and I can reverse the disabling.
Please don’t use a site like YouSendIt where, for the user to hear the song, he/she must download it. That’d be a file transfer of a copyrighted song, and we don’t want either the SDMB or you to get into trouble for illegal file sharing.
What you might try doing, however, is giving us some of the lyrics so we can help hunt them down for you. That method has a high rate of success on this board.
Thanks, and I appreciate the gesture, but it’s an instrumental. It’s a very popular and extremely recognizable song; what if I transmitted only 10 seconds of it?
Works for me, no popups (in Firefox). Don’t recognize the tune though. Just sounds like generic seventies/eighties soul/jazz.
I risked it, got the popup junk the first time, second time I managed to get a good listen to it. My husband is an avid listener of KWJZ Smooth Jazz here in Seattle, and while I don’t know if I can pinpoint the song name, I’d place my bets that it’s something by Norman Brown. Totally his style.
Yes, I clearly remember it from my childhood, so 70’s smooth jazz is right on the mark. I think I can eventually nail it down—thanks.
Dang, now I’m not sure. I don’t think Norman Brown is that old…? I hear that tune all the time on the radio, now I’m curious. At the very least, I’ll help you in your search. I’m going to check the KWJZ playlist. They play it frequently, it must be easily found somehow.
Damn it, it’s on the tip of my tongue. I know I know it, but I can’t think of the title or artist. Maybe if I sleep on it.
Not hearing it… just a guess. Chuck Mangione?
George Benson - Breezin’
Whew. I knew I would think of it.
For those who were scared to click the link, you can hear it here (on Wikipedia). You’ll need to run a Java applet though.
That’s it!
Hooray!
Thanks, MrSquishy—I really appreciate it.
Oh, and to everybody who was alarmed by the pop-up ads and page redirections, I apologize. It wasn’t my intent to cause malware to be uploaded to your system. I’ll be more careful next time.
