Please Pity Me

((((((((((Rosebud)))))))))

Me auld Scottish gram always rubbed my chest and under my nose with Vick’s Vaporub, and made me tea with lemon and honey.

These actually do work really well, especially if you add a shot of whiskey to the tea and drink liberal doses of the elixir of the (healing) gods-NYQUIL!

(Nyquil doesn’t really do anything to heal you, but it knocks you out so your body can heal itself without all those annoying little things like tossing back and forth, pushing the covers off, pulling the covers back on, coughing, sneezing, moaning, trying to stay awake so Rysdad doesn’t steal the remote from you, etc.)

(((((((((((Rosebud))))))))))

You guys are all making me laugh, which is certainly helping!

Funny you should mention a stuffed kitty, DigtalMuse. I’m pretty sure my actual cat cares not one iota for my health, assuming I can still open cans, so a stuffed one would be about equal in terms of having any sympathy for me.

I’m off to bed-- thanks for all the warm fuzzies

::tucks her new universal remote under pillow, wonders when Rysdad will notice his volume buttons don’t work anymore::

You mean to tell me that SDMB is a carrier? I swear I got this from the board. Its just starting and if it gets any worse I will steal blankets from every one of you. I have a Latin exam Friday, I don’t need to be high on temperature. (I mean that, just the way it is written. Fevers boil my brains and get me high.)

At the moment it is just massive sniffles and drools, and an urge to drink every liquid thing I see. (“No, can’t drink that, its face cleanser.” actual thought.) I did have to skip out on a Calc lecture because I was sneezing so much no one else would have heard anything. (Okay so the prof sucks so much no one listens anyway, but I should at least pretend I care about their health.)

Go wash your hands, all of you. I can’t read germy posts, it’ll make me sicker.

Got that crud myself last week. I am almost over it, but for the coughing…I took last tuseday off and slept for 18 straight hours…Nyquil was sent from the gods, and Dayquil got me thru the rest of last week…I started this thread http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=38851 while I was sick…some helpfull suggestions there…

((((((((Rosebud)))))))))

Here’s some Hall’s coughdrops, Puffs with lotion, Theraflu, a warm blanket, an extra pillow and a cozy stuffed animal to hug.

Wow Rose you must be under the weather, because I didn’t think you would ever sound that pitiful.

If it makes you feel better a woman in my office had the gall to actually give birth so I am doing half of her job now. Selfish woman.

Mullinator, I can sound way more pitiful than this, trust me!

I just wanted to share one small triumph with my fellow sickies-- around 6:30 this morning, after being up all night coughing, I called my boss’s voice mail and told her to stuff it six ways from Sunday. Not using those exact words, mind you.

Anyway this is the first time I’ve been on line all day, and I hope eveyone’s feeling better today!

I haven’t laughed this hard in days. Love the descriptions!

I’m not worried about catching anything, I have a virus scanner on my PC. it’ll protect me.

Really.

Why are you laughing?

Oh my goodness! Everyone is sick! This is NOT good. I have brought the truckload of wool and down blankets, the three kettles of chicken soup, the vat of Vicks, the heavy socks, the cozy stuffed animals…you name it. AND I’ll fetch for you. So you all just settle in and start giving the orders.

Ooooh, struuter! I’d kill my own grandmother for a nice box of popsicles right now.

Really.

Rose, I could not live with your Grandmother’s death hanging over my head. Grape? Orange? Cherry? What’s your flavor preference? (I am a mom too, so I can break the double-stick kind without batting an eyelash)

Anyone else?

Lime, please. And orange. My Grandmother thanks you.

I would really love some scrambled eggs, too…

Lime and orange. Don’t forget the napkin. Better? Good.

You want cheese or ham in those eggs? How 'bout some bacon or toast? Butter or jelly?

[This is weird - my mom would always want a popsicle (only red ones) when she was sick. And my grandfather’s nickname for me was Rosebud. Oooooh!]

Rosebud, glad to see you’re at least taking food. I myself am feeling a bit better, no longer hacking like a tuberculitic sea lion like the other day. Just a headache.

struuter, I’ll make sure the soup doesn’t boil over. (I am wearing a surgical mask and gloves, just in case.) And enough hot water for tea.

:disappears into the kitchen, humming:

::: in the den, watching TV because…NOW I’M SICK, TOO!!! :::

Yep. I’m at home. I wasn’t feeling wonderful yesterday, and then the crud hit with full force last night. I went to work until 1:00pm, then said to hell with it and let the other instructor take over.

So, here I am, stuck in the den with a remote whose only working buttons are the 2 and the 6. I have the following choices of channels:

2 - PBS. Currently, Reading Rainbow (I’ve already read Curious George)
6 - Public Access. (Some guy discussing Dutch Elm Disease)
22 - Home Shopping Network (The Lapis Lazuli Bargain-a-Thon)
26 - City Hall TV (Oh, great. The water utility rates are going up)
62 - Lifestyle, the Network for Women (Roundtable discussion of The Bridges of Madison County.) Aargh!
66 - Damned if I know. It’s in German.

Does Radio Shack deliver?

::: gimme a cherry popsicle to get the taste of Nyquil outta my mouth :::

Rys, just close your eyes and rest for about twenty minutes…the wide screen with dish hook-up should be installed by then. Here’s your new remote. Look at all the colorful buttons!

Here’s your popsicle. See? I really CAN make it all better.

screech-owl, you are priceless. Don’t work too hard, though.

struuter, some cheese and some nice buttery toast would be just scrumptious. And if it’s not too much trouble I could use another cup of tea, mandarin orange please

screech, no one’s ever called me screech, but if my throat gets much raw-er, I will be able to communicate only through screeching, so I’d say the coincidences are just piling up!

And if I were you, Rysdad, I’d go with Reading Rainbow! I fully intend to watch the Teletubbies later on-- they take on a whole different meaning when you’re loopy with a fever and cold pills.

I’m ever so sorry about those gummy buttons

Whoa! Channel 6! Put it back! Switch it back! I have been waiting to see this all week! Got an extra tape? How do I program the VCR! Can you tape it for me! I’ll bring a popsicle and soup for you!

{{{Rosebud}}}

Umm, hope you don’t mind a belated hug from a newbie.

(gives Rosebud a big box of tissues, a blankie and a stuffed animal, and smashes her alarm clock)

I think everyone else has already taken care of the food, but if there’s anything else you need I’m happy to help.

Feel better!

::: the Nyquil is taking effect :::

The Channel 6 guy is gone. Now the screen is just all staticky. That’s interesting. They’ve colorized the static. Nice touch.

::: turns of TV and picks up a book :::

Hm. I could’ve sworn this was in English.

::: puts down book :::

Wake me up when Tinky Winky comes on.

'Night, night.

::: Last thought before becoming comatose: What a bunch of nice ladies. :::
